Rose Festival Coronation

Congratulations to Jee Jee Chontso, who was just coronated as Franklin's Rose Festival Princess!

Jee Jee is a junior who is passionate about science, service, and celebrating community. She is involved with the Asian American Association and earned the Community Choice Away at the Build a Brain Neuroscience Competition. Jee Jee plans to attend a four-year university to prepare for medical school, with the goal of becoming a pediatrician. Outside the classroom, Jee Jee enjoys hiking, photography, and volunteering with youth and community programs, including time spent volunteering at OMSI where she loves inspiring young children to explore science. One of the moments she is most proud of in high school was performing a traditional Tibetan dance at the "My Story and My Community" event representing Franklin's AP Chinese program, sharing her culture and personal story on stage. Her favorite Rose Festival tradition in the Grand Floral Parade, where enjoys seeing the entire Portland community come together to celebrate the city.

Jee Jee had this message for the community: "Thank you to Franklin staff and students for all of their support.”

We are excited to share details about upcoming Oregon Area Health Education Center (AHEC) summer camps, which are designed to inspire and prepare the next generation of health care professionals!

Oregon AHEC is part of a nationwide system developed by Congress in 1971 that is committed to developing the next generation of health care professionals through education and workforce development. As part of that mission, we provide health care career exploration camps through our program office housed at Oregon Health & Science University and five regional centers. These immersive programs offer high school students a unique opportunity to:

  • Engage in hands-on health care skill-building activities
  • Explore various medical careers
  • Meet and learn from health care professionals
  • Gain employability skills and real-world experience
  • Connect with peers who share a passion for health care

Whether students aspire to become nurses, physical therapists, dental hygienists or other health care professionals, AHEC summer camps provide the head start they need! With camps hosted across Oregon, students can find an exciting opportunity close to home or explore another region of the state.

Attached below are flyers with details about specific camps and how to apply. For more information, visit Oregon AHEC’s website.
