Cub Connections
Blended Learning Week 2- April 20-24, 2020
Welcome to Week 2 of our Blended Learning Plan
We hope that you and your family are doing well! We are thinking about you and miss you all.
Monday morning begins Week 2 of our Blended Learning Plan. By now, I'm hopeful you have been able to settle into a rhythm in your "home school" and that students are learning lots! We know you are doing a fantastic job of stepping in as the teacher. Remember, we are here to support you!
PACKETS AND CHROMEBOOKS- I will be in the office on Monday from about 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Email me if you still need either and we will make arrangements to get you what you need. jmcalister@mcssk12.org
Lessons for PE and all "specials" will be HERE each week
On the top of each weekly Cub Connection between now and May 22nd, we will list the lesson plans for our PE and "Specials." Specials include art, computer, guidance, and library. Your student attends PE daily but we will only post lessons for 2-3 days. They also attend each of these specials once a week so there is only one lesson for the week for these classes.
New plans will be posted each week but the plans will remain from past weeks as well. This way, they can be done at any time between now and May 22nd.
If you have questions about these lessons, please email the teacher:

Parent Ideas for Homeschooling
Daily Schedule for K-5
A daily checklist that can be adapted for any grade level.
Creator: Allison Griffin, Kindergarten Teacher and Mom to a 2nd grader.
Walt's Checklist (PDF)
Simple Solution
If your students are working online or using the packet and need a place to keep all the assignments they are writing out, use a spiral notebook. You can even use the type with different sections to keep the subjects straight.
Spreadsheet to Keep it all Straight
Spreadsheet for Grades 1, 3, and 5 with a daily schedule as well. In this workbook, there are different tabs at the bottom for the different grade levels. It can be used as a checklist. Erin says she simply printed it off for them to check off as they complete their online/paper work.
From Erin:
"I made a schedule for the day and then mapped out what each child is to accomplish each day of the week. Local friends in Madison County...I will be glad to share any of this for 1st, 3rd, or 5th graders if you think it will help your family."
You can find Erin's full post on the Endeavor PTA Facebook Page: https://sites.google.com/view/endeavor-elementary-school-pta/home
Sticky Notes to Motivate
Creator Kelly Spencer, Mother of a 5th grader.
The picture above is of Kelly's board.
"I created a weekly calendar then I use mini sticky notes for each lesson. We divided up the lessons throughout the week but can move them around easily with the sticky notes if we need more time or if one lesson takes longer than expected. He also feels a sense of accomplishment when he gets to toss the completed lesson sticky note in the trash. Also having a board to write the goals for today has been helpful to focus."
Your Phone Has a SCANNER!
Nickole Messervy shared a post.
I tested this out and it worked so I hope this helps some people.
DID YOU KNOW?...
If you have an iPhone or iPad you actually have a scanner!
Parents, if you are planning to scan any work to your teachers or teachers if you are scanning work to your students you can use the ‘Notes App’.
Open a new note, press the camera button, the option to scan document will pop up. Once the document is scanned you can email it with less band with then a photo.
2nd Grade Spreadsheet
Creator: Jana Grady, PTA Officer and mother of a 2nd grader.
Link to her Spreadsheet.
"I wanted to combine the meat of the information with a checklist to keep track of the tasks we do. I made a chart in Google Sheets so I'll be able to open it from my computer or phone. I plan to get my son a spiral notebook to keep all of his written answers in and I will print the math worksheets.
My chart has the activity lists + quick links to material or links to documents I created to make it easier (typed up sight words to read, for example)."
