Indoor Rowing Club
Starting on January 5th, the day we return from break, Indoor Rowing Club will meet after school on Mondays and Thursdays. You'll learn how to use the rowing machine, or "erg" to get a full-body workout! This is a great way to prepare for real rowing through the Upper Valley Rowing Foundation in the Spring! Practices will conclude at 4:00pm each day. Signups are open for grades 6 - 8 and must be completed through Final Forms.
"I absolutely loved doing Indoor rowing club last year as an 8th grader. It was a fun way to get more exercise during the winter and spring months and it taught me how to properly use an erg which is part of your grade in human performance at the highschool gym class" -Kyle Stanford, Class of 2029
"I personally thought it was awesome and had a blast." Christopher Driscoll, Class of 2029
"I participated in the indoor rowing program last year after it was recommended to me by a friend. It was a great experience, and I went on to join the on-the-water crew team through the Upper Valley Rowing Foundation. In addition to the intense full body workout, rowing offers a unique sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship, with each team mate relying completely on each other athlete." - Jonah Ahern, Class of 2030

LMS Debate Team
The LMS Debate Team competed in its third tournament of the school year this past Saturday, December 13th. Our mighty squad traveled to Pembroke Academy in Pembroke, NH, to debate the resolution, "Resolved: The U.S. federal government should require technology companies to provide lawful access to encrypted communications."
Students got to constructively argue about encryption, warrant-proof spaces, security backdoors, civil rights, and more over the course of four rounds. LMS brought two teams this time: Grace Mlodzik & Charlotte Roy, Evelyn Duchaine & Rose Gibbs. Both teams earned a win on the day!
Our LMS debaters will now begin to prepare for their next tournament, which will take place on Saturday, January 31st. We are EXTRA excited about this next tournament because it is a "home" tournament that will be hosted at Lebanon High School, and because our competition will be other middle schoolers (more often we compete against high schoolers). The LHS high school debate team has volunteered to host and facilitate the tournament, including helping with judging. The topic for the Jan 31 tournament is not yet set; the participating schools involved have agreed to do whatever topic the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) announces for February for Public Forum. That announcement will happen on Jan 1.
SPECIAL INVITATION! If there are any 8th graders who think they might join the high school debate team next year as freshmen, it is not too late to join the LMS debate team and see what this activity is all about. We still have half our season remaining, and the upcoming Jan 31 tournament is an especially good opportunity for newcomers to plunge in. Join solo or find a friend and join as a pair. Sign up in FinalForms and pop into practice (Tuesdays 2:30pm-4pm in Room #206).

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Our team will be holding a free Youth Mental Health First Aid training on Wednesday, January 21st from 9:00-3:00pm via Zoom. This is a great opportunity to learn how to recognize suicide warning signs, how to help youth who may be in crisis, where to go to connect them to support, and more. This training satisfies SB 282’s 2-hour mandated suicide prevention training requirements.
Registration is limited to the first 30 people who register. You can register here. Please spread the word!
If you cannot make this training, or would like our team to come to your school/organization to teach this training, or the 2-hour NAMI Suicide Connect Prevention Training, please reach out to Deryn at Deryn.P.Smith@hitchcock.org.

Winter Weather Message from our Facilities Director
As we settle into winter, we want to remind everyone to take extra care when walking and driving outside of the school. Please be aware of the potential for ice on the roads and in the parking lots/walkways, especially early in the morning. Families, please make sure students are wearing appropriate footwear and outerwear to keep them warm. If you need assistance getting winter clothing, please contact the office. Additionally, LISTEN Community Services can provide vouchers for clothing. You can reach out to a service coordinator at 603-448-4553.

Aviation Art Contest
The NHDOT Bureau of Aeronautics sponsors the NASAO (National Association of State Aviation Officials) Aviation Art Contest each year and I’m hoping you might help us to spread the word about it this year.
This is a fun and creative activity for students. They can take the brochure home since it does not have to be done during school hours and does not need to be submitted by a school. Parents, guardians, or teachers can submit the students’ artwork for them.
The contest is for all school aged children whose birthdate falls between January 1st, 2008 and December 31st 2019. Their artwork will then be judged in an age-appropriate category (Junior, Intermediate, or Senior).
The 2026 theme is “Fly to Save Lives”. Attached is the official NASAO brochure and here is the link for more information as well https://nasao.org/page/international-aviation-art-contest. We really hope you will take a look and pass this on to any children that may be interested in entering for this year.
NHDOT Bureau of Aeronautics gives out some fantastic prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age category. Last year some of the prizes included a Discovery Flight, art supplies, aviation books, backpacks, plus family tickets to the Hobo Scenic Rail Tour, the Aviation Museum, the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery, Castle in The Clouds, and tickets to see Thunder over New Hampshire. Winners also received some really cool Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, Portsmouth International Airport at Pease, NHDOT Bureau of Aeronautics, and NH Fish & Game promotional items.
All students, winners, and non-winners will receive a certificate from our Bureau thanking them for entering. We, all of NHDOT, will judge the artwork on the state level and the winning artwork is then forwarded to NASAO in Washington, D.C. to be judged on a national level.
The artwork will need to be mailed to us by Friday, January 16, 2026 at:
NHDOT, Bureau of Aeronautics
PO Box 483

If you have any questions regarding the art contest and/or aviation education and outreach please do not hesitate to contact Karla Lutz, Karla.J.Lutz@nhdot.nh.gov
LMS Drama Club
Since LMS Drama Club hasn’t put on a full-blown musical in a while, our budget for costumes and sets is very limited—around $400. Having just directed Annie at Hanover Street School, I can say that putting on a show with roughly 50 kids costs a significant amount. For our elementary show, we spent about $3,000 on costumes and set pieces.
We will continue brainstorming creative fundraising ideas as time goes on, but for now, I am shamelessly asking for donations to our club. Of course, we understand that monetary contributions aren’t possible for every family, but if you are able to help us get started, please do so at this link. Any amount helps!
Our current fundraising goal is $3,000, but since this show involves more actors and a larger stage than the elementary play, we anticipate needing to surpass that goal.
Please share the link far and wide to help build our program!

Softball Skills/Drills
Hello Lebanon Softball Players and Parents!
We’re really excited to offer softball opportunities again once we’ve officially entered the softball pre-season. Based on feedback we’ve received from players and parents we’ve decided to offer voluntary skills/drills sessions as early as we can again this winter. It’s nice to have an avenue to get out, get some exercise, interact with other softball players, maintain/grow skills and have some fun during the “dark ages” of winter.
7th-12th graders interested in working out are welcome to join in.
We’ve reserved gym time Saturday mornings from 10:00am-12:00pm at the SAU gym starting on 6 December and will continue till the season starts in mid March.
- The first 30 mins will be for pitchers/catchers (P/C) only. The last 90 mins is open to ALL.
-- i.e. Sat 6 Dec – SAU 88 Gym: 10:00-10:30am P/C Only, 10:30am-12:00pm All
- Enter the gym via the staircase behind the building. Knock loudly and we'll let you in.
Reminder, everyone who plans to come out and join us needs to be signed up for Softball and Approved in FinalForms.
The season is right around the corner!
We look forward to working with you all again! Please feel free to forward this e-mail if you hear from folks looking to participate in our program as players or coaches.
See you out there!
