2 x 10 Strategy
A Simple Strategy for Transforming Student Behavior
Are you struggling to manage a challenging student? A simple yet powerful technique, the 2x10 strategy, could be the solution. By investing just 2 minutes a day for 10 days in one-on-one conversations with your student, you can build a strong rapport and significantly improve their behavior. These conversations might happen at the beginning or end of a class period.
This strategy has proven effective in classrooms across the country, with teachers reporting remarkable results. By prioritizing these brief conversations, you can create a more positive and productive learning environment for all students.
2x10 Relationship Building: The 2x10 strategy involves spending two minutes per day for 10 consecutive school days connecting with an individual student to build authentic relationships and offer extra social-emotional support.
Target Audience: This intervention works best for students struggling with maintaining positive relationships, exhibiting disruptive behaviors, or needing extra emotional support. It provides a safe outlet for students to communicate with a trusted adult.
Implementation Tips: Keep conversations focused on the student's personal interests, maintain consistency in engaging with the student, ask open-ended questions, and be a persistent, positive role model. Consistency and authenticity are key to the success of the intervention.
Monitoring and Feedback: Educators can use platforms like Panorama to create intervention plans, monitor student progress, and gather feedback. Tracking progress allows educators to adapt and tailor interventions to meet students' evolving needs.
Impact and Benefits: Implementing the 2x10 strategy can lead to improvements in individual student behavior, classroom climate, attendance, academics, overall well-being, and social-emotional strengths. This targeted intervention fosters a sense of belonging and connection to adults among students.
