Dear WMS Families,

I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer! We are absolutely thrilled to welcome you back as we kick off a new school year in our state-of-the-art building. It’s hard to believe the time has finally come to open the doors of the new Walpole Middle School, and we couldn’t be more excited to begin this journey together.

This past week, we had the pleasure of giving our students a first look at their new school during the student tours. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and excitement on their faces as they explored the modern learning spaces, collaborative areas, and innovative facilities. From the flexible classrooms to the expansive common areas, the energy in the building is already inspiring, and we’re confident it will be a space where all students can thrive.

Our staff is equally eager and has been hard at work preparing to ensure that every student feels welcomed and ready for success as they enter this new chapter. We’re looking forward to creating a supportive and dynamic environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and growth.

The first day of school for Walpole Middle School students will be Wednesday, August 28th. There will be NO SCHOOL Friday, August 30th and Monday, September 2nd. Our doors open for arrival at 7:35 AM. Each day will begin with morning homeroom that begins promptly at 7:45 AM. All students are expected to be in their assigned homerooms at that time. Being on time for school is essential as it sets the stage for a successful school day. Research shows that attendance is an important factor in student achievement. Any student who arrives after 7:45 AM will be marked late. We understand there may be some delays due to the tempoary conditions. The school day ends at 2:30 PM. Parents/guardians are asked to contact the main office if their child will not be in attendance for the start of the school day. You can email Ms. Meoli, Administrative Assistant, at fmeoli@walpole.k12.ma.us or reach her by phone at (508) 660-7226.

As we gear up for the first day, you will find important updates and reminders in this newsletter that will help make the transition to our new school seamless. We appreciate your continued support and partnership as we embark on this exciting new journey.

Warm regards,

Carrie Ruggiero

Principal

Temporary Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures Temporary Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

Temporary student drop-off / pick-up loop: All passenger vehicle student drop-off and pick-up traffic will enter the school site from Washington Street, take the first right before reaching the new building, and proceed around to the drop-off / pick-up point for students. The drop-off / pick-up point will be a little further down from where students where dropped off during tours. Students will now enter and exit the front entrance. Vehicles will then exit on East Street. We ask that parents/guardians kindly follow the directions given by personnel on-site to guide traffic.

With the volume of traffic and activity at this time, It is important that students are paying close attention during dismissal to quickly and safely locate their cars. Staff will review these temporary procedures with students on Wednesday.

Temporary bus exit road: At the start of the school year, all bus traffic will enter the school site from Washington Street, proceed to the left of the new building, and drop off or pick up students at the paved walkway that leads to the main entrance of the school.

Walkers/bike riders: The pedestrian paths off East St. and Washington St. will be complete for walkers and bike riders for the first day of school.

School Attendance Matters! School Attendance Matters!

Consistent attendance is key to your child’s academic success. Each day of school builds upon the last, and repeated absences or tardiness can result in significant learning loss. On the other hand, being present and on time every day helps develop positive habits that extend beyond school and can impact future academic and professional success. We ask that you please schedule trips and vacations during designated school breaks. Planning travel outside of these periods can lead to missed instructional time, which may affect your child’s overall progress. We fully recognize the value of family time and vacations and appreciate your efforts to balance these with educational commitments by aligning your plans with school breaks. By doing so, we all contribute to a positive and uninterrupted learning environment. Please see the school year calendar for reference below.
