Week 6

Dear MUMS Community,

As we welcome the first days of October, a highlight has been seeing so many of our students in our outdoor classrooms enjoying the mild temperatures and our ecology! In addition, our athletic teams are in the middle of their competitive season and on days when there are multiple competitions and clubs, it is incredible to see how many students are actively participating in extra-curricular opportunities. Thank you to those in the community who support our activities by volunteering or coaching!

Below you will see sign ups for parent teacher conferences which are in a few short weeks believe it or not. Given the school break on October 23rd, we will hold conferences on Wednesday, October 21st in the evening and on Thursday, October 22nd, in the morning. More details can be found below.

Thanks for the support and have a great weekend.

Best,

Michaela

From the MYP Coordinator

Greetings MUMS Caregivers!

In 7th grade Language and Literature courses, students are currently reading “The Crossover” by Kwame Alexander. This engaging graphic novel is told entirely through verse, and uses images and poetry to communicate. Before diving into some classic poetry (Frost, Kipling, Angelou and more), students had a chance to try their own hand at poetry this week!

Students had the choice to create “motion” poems or “brag” poems. Drawing inspiration from mentor poems in “The Crossover”, they created poems using imagery, sensory details, simile or metaphor, and a sound device (like onomatopoeia, or alliteration). Below are some examples of their creations!

💡Talk to your student: What are they reading in school? What kind of reading is their favorite? What kinds of writing do they enjoy most?

Important Cybersecurity Update from ACSD Technology

ACSD has changed how district Google accounts share documents to better protect student and family information.

What this means for families:

  • Documents ACSD staff send you will usually come as an email attachment, such as a PDF, instead of a Google Docs link.

  • When you send something to ACSD staff, please attach the file to your email. Google Docs or Drive links shared from personal accounts may not open for staff.

  • If you can't open something from ACSD, let the staff member know and they'll send it another way.

Please also be careful with unexpected emails saying a document has been shared with you, especially if they ask you to sign in or verify your identity. This applies even when the email appears to come from someone you know. If you're unsure, check with the sender by phone or in a separate email.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday October 21st from 4:00 - 7:30pm, and Thursday October 22nd from 8:00am - 12:00pm.

  • Conferences hosted on Wednesday October 21st, 2026 will be IN PERSON ONLY.

  • Conferences hosted on Thursday October 22nd, will be VIRTUAL ONLY.

  • Please sign up HERE via PTCFast to indicate which teachers and times you would like to meet.

  • Due to limited conference slots, caregivers can meet with only two CORE Teachers. For example you could meet with your students' Lang & Lit teacher as well as the I&S teacher, or you could set up conferences with Math and Science. Please only schedule conferences with 2 out of the 4 CORE Teachers. If you sign up for more than two Megan will contact you directly to choose the two conferences you prefer.

  • MIXT team, Wellness, Language Acquisition, Counselors, Special Education & Interventionists will meet independently with caregivers as folks sign up. You can sign up for as many of these conferences as you would like.

  • Conferences will be 13 minutes long as they have been in the past.

  • The focus of our conferences will be on how students are navigating their school day as well as discuss strengths and an area of growth/focus.

Conference sign ups will close at the end of the day on Sunday October 18th. If you have any questions regarding this process please contact Megan Curran at mcurran@acsdvt.org.

Bikes & E-Bikes on school grounds

There has been an uptick the use of bikes and e-bikes on school grounds.

The awesome thing is that students are riding bikes to school which is so good in so many ways!

The challenge is that those bikes are sometimes ridden on the sidewalks in such a way that our pedestrian foot traffic has felt unsafe. In some instances students are not wearing helmets. In other instances we've had near motor vehicle crashes trying to avoid bikes that are unsafely entering the roadway.

Please re-iterate the importance of bicycle safety to your student.

Please know that if your student is riding their bike in a manner that is impacting the safety of others, they will not be allowed to ride their bike onto school grounds moving forward.

As always, let me know if you have any questions and I'd be happy to talk through them.

ACSD School Board Town Halls

The first ACSD School Board Town Hall is Monday, October 5th at 6pm at Weybridge Elementary School. Child care & light refreshments provided.
