Holy Rosary School Derby
NEWSLETTER / TERM 2/ Week 2/Friday 1st May
Message From Miss Melanie
We had a fabulous end to Term 1 with our swimming carnival, early years water play, Caritas water day and a sausage sizzle lunch. Thank you to everyone who supported these events.
Thank you to Mr Griffin who organised for Holy Rosary to be represented at the ANZAC Day Dawn Service. Thank you to all the students who attended and their families who ensured they were up early, dressed in their uniform and ready to go.
A reminder that we have an early close on TUESDAY 12th of May for our Parent Teacher interviews. Please contact Miss Jenna to make an appointment.
We are excited that we will be having a Baptism service for a number of our students on Thursday 21st May, with details sent out to the families involved. There will be a service in the Church followed by an afternoon tea in the Multi-purpose Room.
Term 2 has started with lots of exciting things happening as the term unfolds. Details of the MAGIC Day stall and morning tea have been sent out to families, we look forward to seeing the special women in our students' lives. We have a Mother's Day Mass on Friday 8th May in the church for those MAGIC women in the lives of our students.
God Bless.
Miss Melanie
Rejoicing Religion
We have had a great response from families wishing to participate in the baptism of their child/ren so we will be having an event on Thursday 21st May. Details have been emailed to families.
For those families involved there will be a Parent workshop on Monday 4th May after school from 2.30pm with a light afternoon tea provided. Details have been emailed to families.
Toys and Special Items
A reminder that students are NOT permitted to bring toys, sports equipment or special items to school. Staff are not able to take responsibility of these items to stop them from being lost or damaged. We ask families to support us with this and ensure that special items are kept at home.
Run Club
Our Run Club has started to help students prepare for the upcoming Cross Country Carnival. Students who attend are provided with breakfast with gates opening at 7.00am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Thank you to Miss Alexis for organising this opportunity to develop student fitness and to Miss Charlotte from World Vision who is supporting our students.
Kimochis
Miss Collette is introducing the Kimochis program across the school from 3K to Yr 6, here is a little bit from Miss Collette about how the program has started -
This term, we have begun using Kimochis, a social and emotional learning program that supports children to understand their feelings, communicate respectfully, and build positive relationships. In recent Kindy and Pre‑primary sessions, students were introduced to Cloud, one of the Kimochis characters, and have been learning that all feelings are okay. Children explored where different emotions can be felt in their bodies and practised sharing how they are feeling during group circles, while listening to others with care and respect. This week, students were also introduced to a simple calming strategy to use when they start to feel angry or frustrated: a breathing technique where they pretend to smell the flour and blow out the candle. Through these gentle, hands‑on lessons, students are building emotional awareness, regulation skills, and confidence, helping to support their wellbeing both at school and at home.
School Uniform
A reminder that students are expected to wear their school uniform each day. Uniform items are available from Admin.
We now have available royal blue zip up jumpers from Admin. Families are encouraged to purchase these jumpers as they are aligned with our uniform. Hoodies and oversized jumpers are not permitted at school for safety reasons and students will not be permitted to wear them during school hours.
SHOES: A reminder that students from Years 1 - 6 are expected to wear sandals with a back or sneakers. Crocs and slip on shoes are NOT permitted at school for safety reasons.
