PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Cape Story Civic Association Members and Friends,
I can’t believe we are closing out another wonderful Summer in Cape Story- the time seems to just fly by these days! The next couple of months provide us with more open space and less traffic- always a good thing for our neighborhood by the Bay! As school is back in session now, please keep in mind the morning and afternoon bus schedules, as the students get back into their daily routines.
We resume our Civic Association meetings in September and encourage everyone to keep in tune with the current events these next few months, as this is as an important lead-in to the next round of elections, at both a local and federal level. I can’t emphasize the importance of learning and understanding the topics that affect us all at a personal level, with an emphasis on the items that can be best achieved at a local or state level, versus those that our federal government must address at a global level to ensure the safety and security of the United States. Our selection of leaders at different levels in the coming months will determine where we ultimately stand in the future.
Please join me in welcoming Will Oakley, Cape Story resident and Civic Association member, as our new Treasurer. He replaces David Albis, who resigned after 16 years of volunteer service in that role. Will is a capable leader in both technology and finance, and we are happy to have him join the CSBTS officers this year!
There are many City and local events planned in the coming months, not the least of which is the annual CSBTS Oyster Roast, to take place this year on Sunday, November 10th. For those new to the neighborhood, this is a highly anticipated fundraising event, which, thanks to our coordination with the Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation, the Virginia Department of Health, the ABC board, and the time and effort spent by our resident volunteers, provides funding for the other periodic events sponsored by the Cape Story Civic Association. If you are interested in assisting, coordinating, providing ideas for this or other neighborhood events, please contact any of the CSBTS officers!
Please note- an ongoing discussion topic within the neighborhood has been safety concerns around the Cape Henry trail/path and intersecting streets, especially those around the neighborhood park. Bikers, e-vehicles, runners and even walkers on the path crossing the streets often compete with the vehicles, both thinking they have the right-of-way. Common sense doesn’t always prevail, and an accident is bound to occur at some point. CSBTS officer Todd Solomon has been working with a representative from VB Parks and Recreation to determine what could be done or changed with respect to these intersections. The representative attended one of our meetings this past year, and we plan to have him return before year-end, to present viable options to avoid potential problems in the future. Please check out future meeting notices for updates.
Best always,
Diana

JULY 4TH FESTIVITIES

The theme for the parade this year was “1980’s Movies”- there were quite a few memorable ones from that timeframe! Trophies were awarded for best theme, most original and most patriotic, for individuals, groups and floats.

TREASURE'S REPORT
Get to know...our new Treasurer, Will Oakley!
I have lived in Cape Story by the Sea for the past six years with my wife Jenn and two children. I run a dog product manufacturing company and help coach the boys lacrosse team at Cox High School, and my wife is an Orthodontist practicing in Hilltop and Chesapeake. We didn't know much about Virginia Beach when we moved to the area, and luck brought us home to Cape Story. I look forward to continuing and preserving the fun and unique things that make Cape Story by the Sea a great neighborhood.
