2026-2027 DCS School Calendar

We had our 50th day of school Monday and celebrated our Lil' Jags rocking and rolling for 50 days already. Seeing so much growth in them academically and socially is part of what makes our job so rewarding and special. We also had our Book Fair. Thank you to all the parents who supported this and showed up to help and shop with your student. We love any and every chance to promote literacy. Please see our flyer below about our upcoming Literacy Night. As we start our 2nd nine weeks, let's encourage our Lil' Jags to keep learning, keep trying, and keep showing up every day. We can't wait to see how much they accomplish this nine weeks.

Roar and Soar

Every day at DCPS we have Roar and Soar time - our intervention block where our teachers and teacher assistants work with our Lil' Jags on accelerating reading and math growth. It is essential for our Lil' Jags to be at school on time each day so that they are not missing this crucial intervention time. Our intervention block starts at 8:35 each day. Students are considered tardy after 8:25.

Student Attendance Rewards

The MS Attendance Law has changed. In order to help us reduce chronic absenteeism and truancy, we are rewarding and recognizing students each nine weeks who consistently show up to school. We are hopeful this incentive will help to increase student attendance.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Please remember when you are dropping off and picking up students in the car rider lines that your students are exiting and entering the car closest to the building side of your car, regardless of which line. Please refer to the map to see where to drop off and pick up according to grade level, and where each line enters and exits the school grounds. If you are not in the appropriate line, you will be asked to go back around and rejoin the correct line. K-1 and siblings should be in the left entrance lane, and 2nd grade should be in the right entrance lane. No one should enter in exit lanes. This is a traffic violation and safety hazard. Cones will block the car rider line from 8:25 AM until 2:15 PM every day for the safety of our students. Please make sure your students' names and numbers are on your car rider signs hanging from your rearview mirror. If you do not have a car rider sign, we will ask you to pull around to the office in order to pick up one. This is for the safety of all students. Please be patient with our staff the first weeks of school as learning a new procedure takes time in the beginning. Smiles and kindness go a long way to help our systems run smoothly. Car riders - please remember that when you leave our campus, there is a STOP SIGN which means you must stop. Southaven Police Department will begin issuing warnings and will give citations after that for non-compliance.

Procedures for Eating Lunch with Students

We love parental involvement and know that dropping by to eat with your student can be a special time. Our procedures for eating with your child at lunch are listed below:

1. No eating in the lunchroom with your child is permitted during the months of August and May unless your child has a birthday that month. These months are crucial to beginning the year well with children acclimating to school and wrapping up the year.

2. You may eat with your child twice during the year - once between September and December and again between January and April.

Please make sure you let your child's teacher know ahead of time if and when you are planning to visit.

Dropping Off Items for Students

We know that sometimes our Lil' Jags forget items at home in the mornings. We ask that all items be dropped off at the front desk by 12:30 each day so that our teachers can focus on teaching and learning and growing our Jags. In addition, we do ask that you please let your child's teacher know if you are dropping off items so that she can be sure to retrieve the items as soon as possible from the front office.
