Happy Sunday Biomedical Families! I wanted to take a moment to respond to some of the questions that came up in the Counseling Program survey I sent out several weeks ago. If you didn’t get a chance to fill it out, please click here!

Q: Is there a list or overview of services offered somewhere?

A: Yes! Click here for an overview of the services I provide.

Q: Can you introduce what types of services are offered in the Bio News?

A: Absolutely! As a school counselor I…

  • Provide bimonthly instruction in every classroom on social emotional topics such as: healthy friendships, self regulation, calming/coping skills, etc.

  • Provide small group counseling (5-7 sessions) for students with similar social emotional needs (ie. self regulatory skills, conflict resolution skills, self esteem, etc.)

  • Provide short term individual counseling (2-3 sessions), crisis counseling, and risk assessments (ie. risk of violence, risk of self harm or suicidal ideation) on an as-needed basis

  • Refer students to mental health partners for additional services (ie. DISD School-Based Clinician, DISD Youth & Family Centers, and outside providers)

  • Collaborate with staff and parents to support student wellness and academic success

Q: Do you change your programming for the kids based on what parents say are their needs? Or is it a curriculum provided by the district?

A: For K-2nd grade, my curriculum is a combination of district-mandated lessons and lessons I’ve developed using campus data (this includes parent feedback!). For PK3 and PK4, I select lessons from Harmony SEL using teacher and parent feedback. Every week, I link upcoming lessons and previous lessons in the Bio News 🙂

Q: Do you offer parent conferences with the counselor?

A: Absolutely! Please email me at amapes@dallasisd.org to schedule.

Biomedical is currently preparing for our first ever winter holiday program! Each grade level will represent a different holiday and culture celebrated during the holiday season. Uniforms Uniforms

I would like to remind you to review the uniform policy and ensure that your child is wearing appropriate uniform and footwear. This is to ensure their safety as improper shoes can lead to injuries.

Homeroom teachers will begin contacting families regarding this topic to better understand individual needs.

Your cooperation in this matter is highly appreciated. please see the approved uniform policy here

Crocs are not allowed as part of Dallas ISD uniform policy.

As the weather gets cooler, we want to remind you to label all student layers. Please write your child's name on the tags of their jackets or sweaters. We want to make sure no clothing items get misplaced and can be returned to your child.
