7th & 8th GRADE STUDENTS EXPERIENCE CAREERS AT THE WORKPLACE IN MOTION SHOW
Our 7th and 8th grade students recently had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and explore a world of career possibilities at the Workplace in Motion show at the Expo Fairgrounds in Essex, Vermont.
The field trip gave students a chance to learn about a wide variety of careers, industries, and hands-on opportunities available right here in Vermont. Students explored interactive exhibits, met professionals from different fields, and learned more about the skills, education, and training that can lead to different career paths.
For many students, the highlight of the experience was getting to see, touch, and try things for themselves. Rather than simply hearing about different careers, students were able to engage with real-world demonstrations and ask questions of people working in a variety of professions.
Experiences like Workplace in Motion help students begin thinking about their own interests, strengths, and possibilities for the future. While our 7th and 8th graders have plenty of time before they need to choose a career, opportunities like this help them understand that there are many different paths to a successful and fulfilling future.
We are grateful to everyone who made this experience possible and to the many businesses, organizations, and professionals who took the time to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with our students!
👇 MEET THE HCS BEHAVIOR TEAM 👇
At Hinesburg Community School, we know that students do their best learning when they feel safe, supported, connected, and understood. That’s where our HCS Behavior Systems Team comes in!
The Behavior Systems Team works throughout the school to support students in developing the social, emotional, and behavioral skills they need to be successful, both in the classroom and as members of our school community. You may see team members working alongside students in classrooms, supporting with transitions, providing individual or small-group support, or simply being a familiar and trusted adult when a student needs a little extra help navigating their day.
An important part of our work is recognizing that behavior is a form of communication. Along with maintaining clear expectations, we work to understand what a student may be communicating or needing in the moment so we can teach skills and provide effective support. We partner closely with students, teachers, support staff, administrators, and families to help students regulate emotions, solve problems, build positive relationships, and participate successfully in learning.
The Behavior Team also supports the broader school community by helping create consistency and positivity, and welcoming environments for all students. Whether we’re celebrating a student’s success, helping someone work through a difficult moment, or collaborating with staff behind the scenes, our goal is always the same: helping every student feel that they belong at HCS and have the tools and support they need to thrive.
I'm Kate Myhre, and I'm the Behavior Systems Team Coordinator at Hinesburg Community School.
I live in Hinesburg with my husband and two children, and I love being part of the same community where I work.
At HCS, one of my favorite parts of my job is helping students feel successful, connected, and supported at school. Outside of school, I enjoy reading and spending time with my family.
One fun fact about me is: I love traveling and exploring new places with my family and friends.
I’m Shanda Driscoll, and I’m a member of the HCS Behavior Team. I live right here in Hinesburg with my husband and our two children. HCS has been a big part of our family—both of my children attended HCS, and I’ve been part of the Hinesburg community for many years.
When I’m not at school, you can usually find me working in my garden or spending time at the race track. I love being part of the Hinesburg community and especially enjoy working with and getting to know our HCS students and families.
One fun fact about me: On Thursday nights, you can usually find me at Thunder Road, where I spot for my cousin, who drives a race car!
My name is Sara Landry, and I am one of the Planning Room Coordinators at Hinesburg Community School. I believe that every student deserves to feel known, valued, and supported. I enjoy building positive relationships with students, learning about their interests and strengths, and helping create a welcoming environment where all students can learn and grow.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our two daughters, and our dog.
One fun fact about me: I love gardening and baking, especially sourdough goodies! Someday, I would love to open my own bakery!

🚨 LOST & FOUND 🚨
We’re only two months into the school year, and our Lost & Found has already accumulated more than 30 items. 😧 At this point, we’re starting to wonder if the sweatshirts and water bottles are multiplying overnight. Jackets, hoodies, hats, water bottles and other assorted belongings are currently enjoying an extended stay at HCS while waiting for their families to realize they’re missing.
Please encourage your child to swing by the Lost & Found and see if anything looks suspiciously familiar. Caregivers are welcome to take a peek, too! All unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity after Friday, October 23.
