Notes from Mrs. Blockman & Mrs. Thomas

Dear Families,

October is here! We cannot wait for some cooler weather. School is off to a great start and we are really getting into the swing of things! How are you doing at home? A positive morning routine sets the tone for a successful school day! Here are a few strategies that can help your child start the day ready to learn and thrive:

  • Get plenty of rest – A good night’s sleep helps students stay focused and energized.

  • Create a calm morning routine – Allow time for getting dressed, eating breakfast, and gathering materials without rushing.

  • Provide a healthy breakfast – Whether at home or school, starting the day with nutritious food fuels the brain.

  • Talk positively about school – A simple “You’re going to have a great day!” builds confidence and excitement.

  • Be prepared the night before – Pack backpacks, set out clothes, and review schedules to make mornings smoother.

Thank you for partnering with us to help students begin each day with confidence and a smile! Please sign up for a Parent Teacher Conference to learn about the start to school for your student. The home / school connection is vital! Thank you for your partnership,

Warmly,

Leslie Blockman, Principal

Parents/Guardians,

As we head into a new week of school, we wanted to send a message about personal items, phones, and chapstick. Personal items such as toys and fidgets should not be brought to school on the students' person or in their backpacks. These items easily become a distraction. If they are seen, teachers will ask students to return items to their backpack. Additionally, per the D87 policy, students are not allowed to carry cell phones or watches that have apps for phone calls or texting. If you need to communicate a change in transportation for dismissal, please call the school office. Last, it is acceptable to send chapstick with your child but please discuss with your child the importance of not sharing. Please do not send lipstick or lipgloss. Thank you for your help in this important matter as we want to help ensure the best possible learning environment for your children.

🩺 Nurse Notes 🩺 Nurse Notes

Kindergarteners and students entering an Illinois school for the first time need to turn in an Eye exam completed by an eye doctor, by October 15th.

New Medication Authorization forms and Diet Modification forms need to be completed by parent/guardian and doctor every year. They can be found on the D87 website in the school health section under the family resources tab.

- If your child has Asthma, please make sure to bring your students inhalers.

- If your student has a food allergy make sure to complete a food allergy form and let me know.

Sick Child: Students who have a fever of 100 degrees or above, diarrhea, vomiting, a contagious rash, or illness, should not attend school. Your child should be free of the condition for 24 hours before returning to school.

Non-urgent Communication: For issues that are not urgent, please let me know if you prefer to use the Rooms app for communication. This is a great way for me to relay information without interrupting your day.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call or email me: Nurse Erick @ 309-662-4302 or heikkilae@district87.org

Have a Great Day,

Nurse Erick

Put it on your calendars-the Fall Scholastic Book Fair will be November 10-14th. More information to come! Be on the lookout for a shopping schedule and brochure to come home at the beginning of November!

Book Checkout

Book checkout has taken off at Oakland! The students LOVE being back in the library. Just a reminder that students need to return their library book on or before their class day in order to check out a new book. If a book is lost or damaged please email Mrs. Martin for replacement cost information. Overdue notices will be sent home periodically throughout the quarter.
