Board BriefJanuary 25, 2024

Making Up Missed Days

Due to the winter storm, schools closed for five days.

In order to make up for the missed days, the district is considering a plan to temporarily suspend Early Release Wednesdays for the second semester, requiring students to be at school the entire day.

By doing this, the district would make up four of the five days out for snow. With this proposal, the school year will end on May 31, 2024. However, if we experience more inclement weather, then we COULD have to extend the school year.

Families will receive a survey via text message and email regarding this proposal. This survey will be sent to the contact information that families provided at the time of registration. The survey will close on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at NOON.

Special Education and Inclusive Practices

The Special Services Department presented a video to show how special education teachers use inclusive practices in their classrooms. Inclusive practices ensure that our students enrolled in special education receive core instruction in general education courses with the appropriate supports to earn a regular high school diploma.

NLRMS Farm Building Presentation

Mr. Michael Clark, the Principal at the Sixth Grade Campus, was joined by representatives from Pinnacle Structures, and Ms. KJ Kite, the Farm Facilitator, to discuss the construction of a storage. Pinnacle Structures will donate this storage, which will include a place to house farm equipment and to provide shelter for animals in the event of inclement weather.

Baldwin & Shell will donate toward the foundation of this building.
