Parent Pocket - August 28
Schoolfield Elementary School
Schoolfield Elementary hosted a special event for our English Learner (EL) families, providing an opportunity to connect, learn, and engage. Families received important Title I information, received hands-on support with setting up their PowerSchool accounts, and enjoyed interactive games and snacks. It was a wonderful evening of learning, support, and family connection!
Woodberry Hills Elementary School
Woodberry 5th grade science students are investigating different ways to separate mixtures. Using tools such as tweezers, funnels, strainers, and magnets, students are exploring and testing which methods work best for separating various mixtures. Students are also testing different substances to determine whether they are solutions or mixtures, strengthening their understanding of the properties and behaviors of matter
Activ8 STEM Academy
8th grade students at Activ8 brought literature and STEM together through James Berry's The Banana Tree! After reading the story, students were challenged to build and test a model banana tree to determine whether it could withstand a simulated hurricane.
Students used evidence from the text to guide their construction decisions, tested their designs, and analyzed the results to explain why their banana trees survived or what improvements they would make.
What a great way to combine reading comprehension, engineering, problem-solving, and critical thinking through hands-on learning!
Park Avenue Elementary School
Mrs. Noble Tucker’s kindergarten students are busy learning to write the letter T! They are practicing proper letter formation while building those important early writing and fine-motor skills.
🏠 Parent/Guardian Activity:
Go on a Letter T Hunt at home! Have your child look for the letter T in books, magazines, food packages, signs, or around the house. Then, practice writing uppercase and lowercase T together using paper, a whiteboard, chalk, or even a finger in flour.
💬 Conversation Starter:
“Can you find something that starts with the /t/ sound?”
“Can you think of three words that begin with T?”
“Can you show me how to write an uppercase T?”
“What was your favorite T word?”
