Cub Connections
February/March 2022 Edition
Madison County Schools are moving to Level 0
- Masks will be optional at school.
- Masks will still be required on any school bus, even on field trips.
- Field trips are allowed.
- All students will eat breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 22nd.
- We will again have school events here at the school including field day, 5th grade awards day, and other events and parents will be able to attend.
- We will have some duty free lunch days for teachers and will be asking for volunteers soon.
- Parents may eat lunch with their child on their birthday or other special occasion. Special occasions include things like a grandparent in town, a parent being deployed or coming home from deployment, an older sibling home from college, etc. These are just examples and not inclusive of every special occasion. We welcome parents for lunch and want you to be able to enjoy special days with your child. However, our space is limited and so please adhere to this policy and make it special rather than routine.
Face Masks Required on the School Bus
Some students are losing their mask during the day and then they do not have it to ride home in the afternoons. Please talk with your child about putting their mask away in a safe place if they are not wearing them during the day. This will help us ensure they have it for the afternoon ride home.
We appreciate your help with this!

Pre-K Program Registration for 2022-2023
This program also takes between 12-15 other students who serve as typical peer models for our students with developmental needs. A typical peer should have good skills in the areas of communication, motor skills, self-help skills, and social-emotional skills.
Parents who have a child that does not have an IEP but that they wish to attend Endeavor's Pre-K program, should email Mrs. McAlister with your interest. jmcalister@mcssk12.org. This will hold your spot. However, you will also need to complete online registration once this is open.
Students who have an IEP will also need to register online once registration is open.
Please email Mrs. McAlister if you have questions. jmcalister@mcssk12.org
Picture Day is Feb 25, 2022
Please remember that picture orders are now completely online.

Important News for 3rd graders
3rd graders who do not pass the reading subtests of the Spring, 2022 ACAP assessment will be asked to attend our Summer Reading Camp (June 6- July 1st) and will have an opportunity to take the test again on June 30, 2022. If students still do not pass this test, we will form a committee to look at a portfolio of their work and tests throughout the school year. The committee will then determine if there is evidence to promote the student to the 4th grade.
Students who did not pass the reading portion of the ACAP assessment during their 2nd grade year and students who are currently being served in Tier 3 reading groups (SPIRE) due to a consistent reading deficiency will have a portfolio created for them. Teachers of these students will be contacting you soon to schedule a conference to discuss where your student is currently performing and to explain the details of what to expect in more detail.
If you have questions before or after this conference with your teacher, please contact Mrs. McAlister, Principal or Mrs. Williams, Reading Specialist.
Summer Reading Camp
The dates for this year's Summer Reading Camp are June 6 - July 1st. June 17th will be a holiday from camp. Please mark your calendars and look for registration information soon!
