Red Ribbon Week--October 26th-30th

"Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free."

Red Ribbon Week is a week long event that helps students think about the negative affects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. National Red Ribbon Week was established in 1988, and has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. To help spread the work and show support here at JIS, we will be having different themed days. Students will also learn a few facts, learn ways to stay away from drugs, and all students will receive a few treats and fun prizes during the week. Plan to dress up to support a great cause!

  • Monday-Wear Red to "Rally in Red Against Drugs"
  • Tuesday-Super Hero/Favorite Character Day
  • Wednesday-Teacher-Student Swap Day
  • Thursday-Color War: 6th grade-wear white; 5th grade-wear blue; 4th grade-wear maroon; 3rd grade wear black
  • Friday-Costume Day to "Scare Away Drugs-Be Drug Free" (Students may wear acceptable costumes.)

Attendance

  • Why Attendance Matters
Consistent attendance helps children build strong learning habits, stay connected with friends, and keep up with important lessons. Every day in school counts — even missing a few days can make it harder to catch up. When students show up regularly, they are more confident, perform better, and feel more a part of their school community. Let’s work together to make every day a learning day!
  • Attendance: Attendance is tracked at the State level, so please make certain that you are making every effort to schedule trips around school breaks. It is important that students be at school as much as possible. In the event that your child does miss a day of school, they may not attend ANY SCHOOL SPONSORED extracurricular events such as performances, practices, football games, or PTO events. Absences should be reported to the office as soon as possible.

Carpool Safety Reminder

The safety of our students, families, and staff during carpool is our highest priority. Please be reminded that left turns are not permitted from the carpool exit lane. The left-turn lane is closed with a gate for safety reasons.

If you need to turn left after picking up or dropping off your child, you must drive through the parking lot and proceed to the traffic light. Please do not wait in the right-turn lane, block traffic, or turn left from that lane. We have observed vehicles holding up traffic in the right-turn lane and then turning left despite the closure.

This is a serious safety concern and could result in an accident. We ask every family to follow the posted traffic pattern and comply with staff directions. Safe and orderly carpool procedures require everyone’s cooperation and help protect our entire school community.

Please share this reminder with anyone who may pick up your child. We are also notifying the district office so that we can continue working together to address this concern.

Thank you for your immediate attention and cooperation.
