For the 2026-2027 school year ALL students can eat daily mid-morning snacks (nutrition) and lunch from the cafeteria for FREE! Fun awesome fact: Providencia has the highest rate in the district for participation in the meal program!

Our school is identified as a Title I school and we receive state and federal funding to support many of our educational programs. Even though we are offering snacks and lunch for free for all students this year, we highly encourage parents to complete the Confidential Household Income Survey and the Universal Benefits Application on a yearly basis. By doing so, we maintain funding this year and subsequent years which directly impacts our staffing and programs such as STEM Lab and Response to Intervention (RTI). Thank you to everyone who complete the forms last year, which allowed us to increase our Title I percentage from 44% to 55% this year! Wowza!

Exciting Changes Coming to BUSD Nutrition Services Exciting Changes Coming to BUSD Nutrition Services

As we begin the 2026-27 school year, Burbank Unified School District is excited to introduce several improvements to our student meal program as we transition from Food Services to Nutrition Services.

This change reflects our commitment to providing students with healthier, fresher, and more nutritious meals while expanding scratch cooking, improving meal quality, and continuing to create a positive dining experience for all students.

As part of this transition, the District recently completed a review of its kitchen operations to ensure compliance with current Health Department requirements. During that review, it was determined that, due to construction work completed at several elementary school kitchens in 2023, those kitchens no longer meet current Health Department expectations for use as centralized production kitchens. Although our elementary kitchens remain safe, fully operational, and compliant for serving meals to students, centralized meal production must temporarily be relocated while the District works toward a long-term solution.

To support this transition, the District has invested in additional commercial kitchen equipment and production resources at John Burroughs High School, which will now serve as the District's centralized production kitchen. This investment ensures that meals continue to be prepared safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Health Department requirements while supporting our long-term vision for an enhanced Nutrition Services program.

During the first portion of the school year, students at our elementary schools will primarily receive fresh cold meal options prepared at the central kitchen. In addition, our elementary kitchens will continue operating as warming kitchens, allowing selected menu items to be safely heated and served on campus. While warm meal options may be more limited initially, we anticipate expanding these offerings as operations continue to stabilize and facility improvements progress.

These operational changes are temporary and are part of a larger effort to modernize our Nutrition Services program, improve meal quality, and ensure that our facilities meet current regulatory standards.

We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and support as we implement these improvements. Our commitment remains the same: providing every student with safe, nutritious, high-quality meals that support their health, well-being, and success in school. If you have questions regarding our Nutrition Services program, please contact your school office or the Burbank Unified School District Nutrition Services Department.

Thank you for your continued support of Burbank Unified School District.

New Roof...But Where Did The Trees Go? New Roof...But Where Did The Trees Go?

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

This past summer Providencia's main building got a brand new roof and our monkey bars in the TK/K yard were replaced by a fun and bright blue tunnel!

The biggest change was the elimination of the trees between the hallways. Unfortunately the seed pods of those trees fall off, get into our drains, have been a magnet for critters and can get quite heavy causing large branches to break off, becoming a safety issue. Our Grounds Department are contracting out stump grinders and will soon plant Palo Verdes and beautiful Crape Myrtles that come in white, pink, red and lavender. Thank you for understanding as we continue to improve our building and beautify our school!

New Policy on Food Deliveries New Policy on Food Deliveries

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

In an effort to keep our campus safe, Burbank Unified discourages food delivery to students at lunch from outside vendors. In alignment with secondary schools, and effective this school year, Providencia will not accept lunch from delivery services, including DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmates, Uber Eats, friends, or family members. This policy prohibits deliveries at the front door and at all other locations on our campus. Delivered items will be discarded. Please plan ahead and have your child bring their packed lunch to school and/or they can participate in our free meal program. Thank you for understanding.
