Community Service Project Community Service Project

On April 17 (the day before spring break) we will conduct a schoolwide community service project where we will be making bagged lunches for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK). There are a variety of tasks in this project and we hope to involve as many students as possible with assignments ranging from sandwich making, to making flatware bundles, to packing boxes for delivery.

To support this project, we are looking for donations. These donations can be “in kind” or cash. Please see the link to the sign up genius below if you wish to make a donation:

In order to organize the event, we ask that all donations be dropped off at the school by Monday, April 14, 2025.

Thanks in advance for everyone’s support.

Message from the Superintendent: District Mission Statement Message from the Superintendent: District Mission Statement

We're creating a new Mission Statement for our district and we need your help. A mission statement is used to explain the purpose of an organization.

We're using a platform called ThoughtExchange to gather ideas from students, staff, and the community.

What is ThoughtExchange?

It's an online tool where you can:

  • Share your thoughts.

  • Rate others’ ideas.

  • Help us find the most important ideas for our district.

Why participate?

Your input will directly shape the future of Northern Burlington! We want to create a Mission Statement that truly reflects what's important to you.

How to participate:

Use this link: Northern Burlington ThoughtExchange Link

Follow the instructions to share your ideas and rate others. You can participate anytime over the next two weeks.

We'll share the results and discuss next steps in the spring. Thank you for helping us build a better Northern Burlington!

Class of 2030 - Course Selection for 2025-2026 Class of 2030 - Course Selection for 2025-2026

Last week, the middle school counselors met with all of the current seventh graders during their physical education classes to review course selection for next year. All of the students present entered their course requests in PowerSchool. Parents should be sure to review the requests with their child. Any questions, please contact the counseling office. Any changes must be made by March 17. After that date, the system will be locked and counselors will begin to meet with students individually to go over the requests.

For reference, the middle school program of studies can be found at this LINK.

Fun Night Fun Night

The Middle School Student Leaders are planning a Fun Night on Friday, March 21, from 6:30-8:30 pm at the middle school. There will be dancing, games in the gym, and more! Students should dress casually and wear sneakers to play in the gym. Tickets are $5 or 5 NB3 tickets and will be on sale during lunches Wednesday, March 12-Wednesday, March 19. No tickets will be sold at the door and the event is for Northern Middle School students only.

High School Program of Studies and Course Selection for 2025-2026 High School Program of Studies and Course Selection for 2025-2026

The school counseling time is excited to begin the 2025-2026 course selection process in February for all current 8th graders. Course selection will occur electronically. Please review these instructions and contact your student’s counselor if you have any questions. The 2025-2026 High School Program of Studies, Career Cluster Alignment to Courses at NBC High School Guide, Department Sequence Charts, High School Program of Studies Video Series and the Four-Year Planning Tool are available on the High School Counseling Department Web Page to assist students and parents as they make course selections.

The academic directors visited eighth grade classes. They briefly discussed the career pathways, the course selection process, the four-year planning process, and assisted the students in beginning a preliminary schedule. The school counselors will conduct individual meetings with all 8th graders to confirm their course selections starting in March.

The timeline below indicates the dates that the PowerSchool Parent Portal will be accessible for course selection and dates for student/counselor scheduling meetings. Please feel free to reach out to your son/daughter’s school counselor with any questions or concerns.

Clinical Corner Clinical Corner

March can often be "test season" with various tests your teen/student might have so I thought it would be helpful to have a quick way to help them center themselves. “Focusing on our bodily sensations helps anchor us to the present moment. Since we always have our breath with us, it is something we can always use as a focusing point,” states the authors of DBT Skills in Schools, Mazza, Dexter-Mazza, Miller, Rathus, and Murphy, 2016, p.93. DBT, or dialectical behavior therapy helps people find ways to accept themselves, feel safe, and tolerate their emotions to help regulate potentially destructive or harmful behaviors. This breathing technique can help calm you, so you don’t act impulsively and also helps relieve anxiety. Here’s how it works: For one to two minutes, and with a “soft gaze”(looking down at nothing in particular), count 1 on the in-breath, then 2 on the out-breath, 3 on the in-breath and 4 on the out-breath, all the way to 10. When you get to 10, stop and begin counting at 1 again. If you lose count, just notice it and begin back at 1. If you notice that all of a sudden you are at 11, 18 or 24, just notice it, let it go and begin back at 1 again. If you notice your thoughts are drifting away from your breathing, just notice it and gently bring your attention back to your breath and counting. It is a great way for parents and teachers also to hit the pause button in the middle of a hectic day!
