Glenwood
This Week's Scouting Report
Thursday April 23, 2026
Good evening, Glenwood families,
Another busy week at Glenwood!
We kicked off our PSSA testing window for grades 3–5. Students have shown up each day prepared and ready to give their best effort. With two days of ELA complete, we paused for Take Your Child to Work Day and will finish ELA testing tomorrow. Thank you for helping students get a good night’s rest, eat a strong breakfast, and arrive on time.
Next week, we move on to Math (3rd-5th) and Science (5th grade only)!
With Laxapalooza at Penncrest this Saturday, students are encouraged to wear their Optimist lacrosse or team jersey tomorrow. We will also join the district in recognizing Autism Awareness T-Shirt Day, so feel free to wear your shirts and show your support.
Bring the school spirit, and keep an eye out for all the great things happening as the year continues to move quickly!
Best,
Josh Rehak, Principal
Tomorrow: Wear Optimist Lacrosse Jersey
MONDAY - WEAR FLYERS!

Fifth Grade News
Fifth graders have been BUSY!! They have been getting ready for the ELA, math, and science PSSAs! In ELA, they practiced writing essays. To spice things up a bit, they also played Silent Seek and Find and did some partner work to review grammar concepts. In math, they have been learning new geometry concepts including the names, properties, and relationships of quadrilaterals. In science, fifth graders have been learning about chemistry by conducting experiments!
Outside the classroom, fifth graders were up on stage! Some Glenwoodians went to Penncrest to compete in Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader! While there, they competed against Penncrest seniors. Others were on the Glenwood stage performing poems they composed on their own!
PSSA Testing Information 2026
- ELA - April 21st, 22nd, and 23rd
- MATH - April 28th, 29th
- SCIENCE - April 30th, May 1st (5th Only)
It’s STEM/Makerspace Time in the Library!
All students will be exploring aspects of STEM in the library.
Kindergarten through Third will be exploring challenges using library provided materials.
Fourth and Fifth Grade Families ~ Students will need to find items at home to use for their projects. Please do not go out/online and buy things. The challenge for 4th & 5th grade is to be creative when looking for materials. Repurpose, reuse, create! I will provide a pizza box for all fourth graders. Fifth graders need shoe boxes!
Let’s get building!
Join the Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction
There were 171 cereal boxes collected this week! It’s a good start, but we need your help to reach our big goal of 1,400 boxes to support local shelters in our community. Every box makes a difference for families in need. You can send in cereal with your child or make it even easier by shipping directly to the school using our Amazon link. Let’s come together to spark a chain reaction of kindness and help knock down hunger like dominoes, one box at a time! (This is FULL, unopened boxes of cereal!)
Glenwood Book Swap
Are you doing a Spring Cleaning? Do you have lots of gently read children’s books that you no longer use? Consider donating them to Glenwood’s Book Swap! Students will be participating in a book swap later this year and we need books! Please send in any gently used elementary school appropriate books to Glenwood’s library! Volunteers will also be needed to help run the swap. Dates and more info to come soon!

PTG Updates
5th Grade Pictures DUE NEXT WEEK!
We are collecting pictures of our fifth graders to be included in the fifth grade slideshow and baby picture display case at the end of the year. We are asking each parent to upload the following:
1 baby picture of your fifth grader to be included in our baby picture display case. In late spring, we put together a baby picture display case for our 5th graders in the main lobby. The students have fun guessing who's who!
Any and all pictures you have of our 5th graders at school activities throughout their years at Glenwood. Please upload pictures in the corresponding grade level folders, K-5th grade. Please ONLY include pictures at school or school-related events. For virtual years, you may include a few pictures of your child "virtually learning". Please note group shots work best as we’d like to get as many kids included as possible. These pictures will be compiled into a slideshow for our 5th graders to watch at the end of the year.
Please have all pictures uploaded by Friday, April 24th.
