Dr. Ruvalcaba, Superintendent of Schools

Dear Moreno Valley Unified School District Community,

As we transition into the month of June, I am honored to join our students, families, and staff in recognizing LGBTQ+ Pride Month. This month serves as a vital opportunity for us to reflect on our core mission of fostering an educational environment rooted in equity, acceptance, and a profound sense of belonging. In Moreno Valley Unified, we believe that every student deserves to walk through our doors feeling seen, safe, and celebrated for exactly who they are. Our commitment to equity is not just a policy but a daily practice of ensuring that our LGBTQ+ youth and colleagues know they are indispensable members of our school family.

This celebration is deeply intertwined with our District’s vision to prepare all students to become responsible, resilient, and highly productive citizens in a progressive global society. To achieve this, we must maintain a learning environment that mirrors the world’s diversity and upholds the dignity of every individual. By championing a culture of inclusivity, we directly support our mission to provide a safe and supportive setting where academic excellence is fueled by social-emotional well-being. When our LGBTQ+ students feel a true sense of belonging, they are empowered to lead with empathy and integrity, reaching their full potential without the weight of exclusion.

Pride Month is a time to honor the history and the courageous contributions of the LGBTQ+ community, while also acknowledging the unique challenges many continue to face. By embracing the diversity of identities within our district, we strengthen the collective fabric of our community and fulfill our promise to provide an equitable education for all. Let us use this month to reaffirm our dedication to a future where every scholar is inspired to thrive and where, in Moreno Valley Unified, everyone’s story matters.

Happy Pride Month!

Alejandro Ruvalcaba, Ph.D.
