What's Been Happening at Parker?
Superintendent's Principal Meeting๐ป
The String performing groups performed for the Superintendent's Monthly Principal meeting. This was a special request from the Leadership and Strategic Initiatives Department to have Parker kickoff the first round of meetings in a strong way. Our students did an amazing job for the two days of performances.
Farewell Milkshake๐น
Ms. Hatton's fourth grade class lost their class pet this past week. To celebrate his life and journey, students wore black and white in honor of his white and black coat. They also wrote short messages about their memories with Milkshake and read them as they enjoyed "Milkshakes in honor of Milkshake".
Grandparent's Day Lunch๐ฅช
We had a jam packed two days of love and support during our Grandparent's Day lunch.
WE NEED YOUR HELP๐ค
Parents, we need you help with getting our kiddos into school on time. The building opens at 7am for all students. Breakfast is now served immediately once students arrive in the building and they can enjoy their breakfast in the cafeteria instead of the classrooms.
Generally, in the morning the front entrance and carpool lane has a slow and steady flow for arrival between about 7:00am - 7:15am. We are seeing our largest amount of our students coming into the building between 7:20am -7:30am.
Here is some insight on what is happening in the building in the morning:
7am-7:25 - Students are eating breakfast in the cafeteria and once finished they are seated in their waiting areas with staff.
Note: that students that are arriving with their instruments, have to walk upstairs to their music room to drop them off then go back downstairs for breakfast.
Between 7:22am-7:25am students are released to go to hallways to meet their teachers at their doors. (It takes about 5-7mins for all student to safely transition from the cafeteria and gym to their classrooms)
Please also note that this is also the time frame, as mentioned above, that we are seeing the majority of our students walking into the building. If they have an instrument they still must go drop it off and if they want breakfast they are still able to go get breakfast. All of this is happening as hundreds of students are walking to classrooms.
Student arriving after we transition to class are still able to receive breakfast, if they want it. They take their breakfast to class with them to eat in class while beginning instruction with their teacher.
Teachers begin their Do Now/Warm Up/Morning Work immediately at 7:30am as students unpack their bags and the morning announcements begin. Announcements usually last no more than 5mins. Teacher begin walking student through their completed Do Now/Warm Up/Morning Work after the announcements.
We need your help with ensuring our students have the ideal state to start their day. Having time to sit and enjoy their breakfast or just mentally get ready for the day and not feeling rushed is the ideal state for a student starting their day.
Monthly Chat & Chew
Join us monthly for a brief meeting to chat with Principal Carter. Similar to the previous Coffee with the Principal event, Principal Carter will share one to two key topics with parents during the Chat & Chew event. The rest of the session will be an open forum for parents to chat with the Principal and ask questions pertaining to campus.
There is an option to join the conversation at two different times. Attendance at both is not necessary.
Please note that the afternoon session time has been moved to 3:30pm for parents to avoid the regular dismissal traffic and easily find parking.
Cycle I - Report Cards (09/27/2024)๐ฏ
Students will receive their Cycle I Report Cards for the first six weeks of school on Friday, September 27th.
Grades can also be viewed in the HISD Connect Parent Portal.
Contact your student's homeroom teacher if you have not received the document with the login information for your student(s).
Kindergarten Report Cards
Please note that Kindergarten report cards are being placed on hold as the district refines what the new expectations will be across the the district. There was a plan to alter report cards from the 1, 2, 3 Standards format to be more aligned with the 1st-5th grade report cards. This is still being defined at this time. More information will be forthcoming once we receive guidance from the district office.
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month
Join us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage month by wearing Latin attire each Friday until October 11th.
El Mercado!!๐
El Mercado will be on October 9 this year celebrating Hispanic Heritage with students and teachers. Students will be able to purchase goods from the Mercado with their "Parker Pesos." (lemonade, candy, breads, cookies, quesadillas)
The order for our El Mercado t-shirts is due this Monday, the 23rd. You should have received information in Class Dojo from your teachers.
Backpack Buddy๐
Backpack Buddy is back at Parker this school year!
Backpack Buddy is a program that helps alleviate child hunger by closing the weekend gap for hungry children. Every Friday, students participating in this program will receive a nutritious, children-friendly food sack to take home and be back to school on Monday, eager and ready to learn. Backpack Buddy welcomes elementary, middle, and high school schools to participate.
If you are interested in your child to participate in the program, please feel free to come see me for an application or you can email me at evelyn.olivares@houstonisd.org All students participants must have a signed permission slip.
