PBIS
At Madison Middle School, We believe in celebrating students not only for academic achievement but also for the effort that they put into creating a safe, respectful, and responsible community. Our PBIS framework helps us to do this through our acknowledgement system. Our MadMoney tickets are a more frequent way to recognize this behavior but we also like to recognize sustained positive behavior over time as well.
This past Thursday we shared the criteria for qualifying for the first Fun Friday of the school year. Student behavior around being prepared for class will be tracked from Thursday, September 11th through Thursday, September 18th.
6th grade:
Any student that does not come prepared to class more than 2 times in any one class would not meet the requirements to qualify.
7th grade
Any student that does not come prepared for class more than 1 time in any class will not meet the requirements to qualify.
8th grade
Any student that does not come prepared for class more than 1 time in any class will not meet the requirements to qualify.
Students that meet the criteria will be invited to our Fun Friday event on September 19th. Fun Friday takes place the last 90 minutes of the school day. Students will have different activities to choose participate in. These range from movies and crafts to open gym and outdoor recreation time.
We’re proud of the work our students are doing, and we’re committed to helping them grow not just academically, but socially and emotionally too. Thank you for your continued support as we build a positive and inclusive school culture together.
NWEA Testing
Middle School Students will be taking NWEA assessments on September 16, 17, and 18. Your child will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA on their Chromebook. To help them do their best on this test, please make sure that they are charging their Chromebook at night for the next few days, as well as eating a healthy breakfast. Each school year (at the beginning and end of the year), students in grades 6-8 take the tests in Reading, Math, and Science.
MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students. MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level. Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly. MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level.
We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.
Infinite Campus
This year both new and returning students/families will complete student registration via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. This can be done for returning families via the Parent Portal app or by using the link that follows https://www.infinitecampus.com/login
The purpose of this process is to ensure that our records are updated with correct addresses/phone numbers. This process will also eliminate the large number of paper forms that parents are asked to complete at the start of each school year!
Parents who do not have an active Parent Portal account in Infinite Campus should us the QR Code or link below to request an activation code.
Student Technology Fee
An annual Technology/Textbook fee of $25 will be assessed to all middle and high school students. The Technology Fee must be paid before a student can receive their textbooks & Chromebook. The fee can be paid on myschoolbucks.com.
To ensure that your student can receive their Chromebook on the first day of school, the Technology Fee should be paid by Friday, August 22nd.
