Grade 3

Glyphs are a way to communicate non-verbally. Bridges math curriculum says "A glyph is a simple picture or figure whose features represent information about a given subject. Glyphs are used by doctors, astronomers, meteorologists, geologists, and other scientists as an alternative to charts or tables. Glyphs have also become increasingly popular with mathematicians of all ages because they are fun to make and interpret, and because they can represent so much data at once." Collecting data is something that we are at the moment focusing on in math class.

I was so impressed as I sat in and observed our students presenting their glyphs to one another!

Grade 4

4th Graders chose a word for the year then they made bracelets and signs representing their word and what it means to them. They also made maps of their hearts, Great job!

Middle School ELA

Grade 6 students are starting to read The Giver in ELA today and they began by discussing dystopias in society. The themes students previewed are: freedom to choose, government, power, knowledge, history, and diversity. They brainstormed how these topics would reveal themselves in the literature and found connections to our own society.

Grade 6 practiced using the scientific method by exploring various science experiments. Students were tasked to conduct their own experiment and create a hypothesis, method, measures, procedures, and record data. Some of the experiments included measuring soda carbonation, placing mentos in soda, and measuring how high different sized balls bounce.
