KMS NEWSLETTER

Dear KMS Families,

We are excited to invite you to our Middle School Open House! This year we are introducing a new format designed to make the evening more informative and focused on your child’s grade-level experience.

The evening will begin with a 20-minute session with the middle school administrators in the Commons, where we will share school-wide updates and highlights for the year. You can choose from 4 starting times: 4:30, 4:50, 5:10, or 5:30.

Following that, families will have the opportunity to visit grade-level teachers, who will provide information specific to their grade, including classroom expectations, curriculum, and ways to support student success at home.

Additionally, we will have PowerSchool/Schoology help available in the KMS Library if you need your parent access code or help getting set up online with these two programs.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the KMS Office at 907-486-7460. We look forward to connecting with you and working together to support your student’s growth this school year.

KMS Students volunteer to support the KMS Art Departments Fundraiser. KMS Spirit Wear earrings will be available at the KMS Open House September 11. Logos from all KIBSD Schools are available $12 each or two for $22.

If you can help out for a couple hours during Picture Day, please click here to sign up! It's very easy, and takes place in the KMS library.

We are kicking off our 6th grade year with an adventurous hike up Pillar Mountain. A bus will drop us off at Pillar Creek Hatchery and we will hike up the backside trail, meet at the top for lunch and beautiful views. After some hang out time, we will walk down the road back to KMS.

Dress for the weather and pack water, snacks, and a lunch. If you are interested in

chaperoning or donating goodies, please make sure you are on the approved volunteer list and then sign up using the QR Code in the attached Permission Slip.

Permission Slips must be turned in to Mrs. Kondro by September 10.

The 7th grade class at Kodiak Middle School will be heading to the Buskin River for an educational and fun outdoor experience on Monday, September 22nd.

We welcome parent volunteers to help supervise and ensure the safety of all students. If you're interested in chaperoning, please complete a volunteer clearance form which is good for 3 years, and contact any member of the 7th grade team via email. Your support is greatly appreciated!

We are planning a Community Clean-up on Near Island. All 8th grade teachers will take their 1st period classes from 9-11am to clean up trash on Near Island, under the bridge, around the school, around Baranof park.

We will return to classes where teachers will share a presentation about 9/11.

Students will eat lunch and have recess as normal, then spend the afternoon at Baranof park playing games and getting to know one another.

We are looking for parent volunteers to help with the trash clean-up. Email Mrs. Norton if you'd like to help out.

Kodiak Public Library showcases youth applicants from kindergarten to high school ages by featuring a display of their favorite books, movies, kits, and other library resources! They spotlight the Shelfie Star and their choices for at least a couple of weeks to allow our community to check it out!
