September 23 - Family Information Night
Dear Families,
We are looking forward to welcoming you to our Family Information Night! The purpose of this evening is to give parents and caregivers an opportunity to learn more about their child’s classroom, grade-level expectations, routines, curriculum, and the learning experiences ahead this school year.
Each grade level will have a designated 10-minute classroom presentation, with 5 minutes between presentations to allow families time to transition to another classroom or grade level:
Kindergarten: 5:40–5:50 PM
Grade 1: 5:55–6:05 PM
Grade 2: 6:10–6:20 PM
Grade 3: 6:25–6:35 PM
Grade 4: 6:40–6:50 PM
Families with children in multiple grade levels are welcome to attend each of their children’s presentations.
A Special Activity for Families
Our PFA will provide a scavenger hunt for families to complete throughout the evening! Before or after your child’s presentation, we encourage you to explore the school together and participate in the scavenger hunt. This is a fun opportunity for children to show their families around the school while also becoming more familiar with our school community.
A Reminder About Classroom Presentations
We know that many families will have their children with them for the evening, and children are welcome to attend. However, during the 10-minute teacher presentations, it is important that children remain quiet so that all parents and caregivers can hear the information being shared. We ask families to please help their children understand this expectation before arriving.
The presentations are brief and specifically designed to provide parents and caregivers with important information about the school year. Your support in maintaining a quiet environment during these 10 minutes will help make the presentations valuable for everyone.
If you are unable to attend Parent Information Night, teachers will make their presentation or information available to you afterward so that all families have access to the information being shared.
We hope the evening provides a chance to learn more about your child’s school experience, explore the building together, and strengthen the partnership between home and school.
We look forward to seeing you!
Welcome, Ms. Reed, paraeducator

STA Bus Drivers S.W.I.M. with us at RFS!!! - Thank you for all you do.
Hello!
I wanted to send a quick note to STA to say thank you to Merrimack’s Reeds Ferry bus driver #19. My daughter started kindergarten this year and among all of my worries, her taking the bus was one of the biggest of them. The driver for bus #19, who my daughter says is Mr. Tom, has been absolutely wonderful and I know my daughter is in great hands with him behind the wheel.
I just needed to share that because seeing my daughter’s face light up when the bus stops at our house and he gives her the thumbs up to cross the street safely has really become the highlight of her day, which makes my day as well.
Thank you,
Congratulations Ms. Demers on your wedding!

News from the Merrimack Superintendent
Listening Sessions
As a reminder, we will be hosting two upcoming Listening Sessions for Merrimack families. These informal gatherings are an opportunity to hear directly from you about three important questions:
- What do you value most about the Merrimack School District?
- Where do you see opportunities for growth as a school district?
- What does effective superintendent leadership look like to you?
These sessions are open to all Merrimack parents and guardians, regardless of which school your children attend. Please feel free to attend whichever session is most convenient for you.
- Mastricola Elementary School (MES): Thursday, September 17, 10:00–11:30 a.m. in Room #13
Parent/Family Survey
As part of the leadership transition, I am also inviting Merrimack families to complete a brief stakeholder survey. Your feedback will help me better understand what our community values most about Merrimack schools, where families see opportunities for growth, and how I can best support our students, staff, and community as superintendent. A link to the survey can be found here.
The survey is voluntary, and responses will help identify themes, strengths, and opportunities as I develop my entry-plan findings.

Student Privacy and Directory Information
Protecting student privacy is an important responsibility of the Merrimack School District. Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and New Hampshire law, school districts may disclose certain information designated as Directory Information without prior consent, unless a parent or legal guardian has exercised the right to opt out.
Directory Information may include:
- Student name and address
- Field of study
- Weight and height of student-athletes
- Most recent previous school attended
- Date and place of birth
- Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
- Dates of attendance, degrees, and awards
Directory Information is commonly used for purposes such as school yearbooks, student directories, graduation programs, honor rolls, athletic rosters, school newsletters, recognition of student accomplishments, school websites and social media, photographs, and press releases. It may also be shared with organizations or individuals for legitimate school-related purposes, unless a parent or legal guardian has exercised the right to opt out. Parents also have the right to opt out of disclosing certain pieces of directory information.
Parents and legal guardians have the right to refuse the disclosure of their student's Directory Information to third parties. If you wish to exercise this right, please email the Superintendent's Office stating that you do not want your student's Directory Information disclosed to third parties. Parents and legal guardians may also choose to opt out of specific uses or categories of Directory Information instead of opting out of all Directory Information.

Breakfast and Lunch RFS
We’re excited to announce that we will be offering breakfast again this year! This was an incredibly popular addition last year, and we’re thrilled to bring it back for the 2025–2026 school year.
Each morning, students will have the opportunity to grab a “To-Go” breakfast for just around $1.75. These quick, convenient meals will include:
Milk or juice
A piece of fruit, applesauce, or something similar
A tasty, easy-to-eat item like a granola bar
All items meet the required nutritional guidelines, ensuring a healthy start to the school day.
Best of all, students who qualify for free or reduced lunch will also receive breakfast at no or reduced cost.
We’re proud to offer this option to support our students with the fuel they need to learn and thrive each day!
We are encouraging every family to complete a free/reduced-price meal application.
Did you know filling out the school meal application may help provide:
• After School Academic & Enrichment Programs.
• Free/Reduces meal 30-day rollover for the next school year.
• State and Federal funding for school budgets.
• Fund computers and technology at home and for your school.
• Fee waivers for college applications and admission tests.

Afterschool arrangements
Just a reminder, if your child is going to an afterschool program and plans change, please let RFS know through SDM and the Afterschool Program. Thank you,
School Dismissal Manager
School Dismissal Manager (SDM) Parent Welcome Letter - School Year 2026-2027
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to School Dismissal Manager (SDM), an organized and more efficient tracking system for afternoon dismissals! Using your desktop or smartphone browser, quickly and easily update your child's dismissal instructions when they need to be changed, making it no longer necessary to call or send notes and emails to the school for dismissal changes.
The easy-to-use interface will allow you to make changes in advance or for the current day by creating “exceptions”. You can report absences, early dismissals, and schedule recurring dismissal instructions for after-school activities. When creating an exception for the current day, note that the cut-off time on regular days is 1:30 PM (on Early Release Days, it is 10:50 AM). After the cut-off time you will need to call the school office to make any changes for the current day.
RFS will open up SDM for family sign up August 26nd.
Here are a few Fast Facts that you will need to know for getting started:
1. The app is compatible with Android and Apple devices and native apps can be found in the respective app stores or via our website.
a. Android – Search in the Play Store for School Dismissal Manager and Install -OR- open a Chrome browser window, go to www.schooldismissalmanager.com, and login. Then click the three stacked dots at the top right corner, scroll down and click on Add to Home Screen, and follow the onscreen instructions to install the app.
b. iPhone – Search in the App Store for School Dismissal Manager and Install -OR- open a Safari browser, go to www.schooldismissalmanager.com, and login. Then click on the box with the arrow pointing up, scroll down, and click Add to Home Screen. Type in (or click on if auto-filled) SDM and then tap Add to install the app.
2. First Login
a. Check your child's default dismissal (how your child goes home most days) and make sure it is set correctly. If changes are needed, select the green Set/View Default button above the calendar or if using the SDM app, select Default Dismissal from the menu at the top left, to set the correct dismissal. Setting a weekday default will override the main default on a specific day of the week. Always set the main default first, then set weekday defaults only as necessary.
3. FastLane Parent Pick-Up Method
NOTE- We will continue to have parents park & walk into the building (APR) to pick up students.
a. QR Code: We will be utilizing FastLane during our afternoon dismissals. You will be asked a series of questions when creating a FastLane dismissal. Select the Any Parent of… option, unless it is necessary to be specific, so that no matter which parent shows up their PIN number will be valid for pick-up. To scan the QR Code at the check-in point, make sure the SDM app has been given access to your phone’s camera before the first day of FastLane check-in. Click the blue Scan QR code button and follow the on-screen instructions to check-in. FastLane will begin on September 2nd, so be sure your child’s default dismissal is correct before this date.
b. Parent PIN: All parents will receive a PIN number during their SDM registration process. If you are unable to use the QR code when you arrive at RFS for Parent Pick-Up, another option is to present your PIN number to the staff member. It is an alternative way to sign in. FastLane will begin on September 2nd, so be sure your child’s default dismissal is correct before this date.
4. Reporting Your Child will be Absent
We will be utilizing SDM’s Absent option for parents to report their child’s absence. Select the day on the calendar that your child will be absent, then select Add Exception, and choose Absent from the dropdown options, filling out the necessary information. If your child is out sick, please mark them as “absent” in SDM BEFORE 9:30 AM so RFS can ensure an accurate attendance count for all students. SDM does not determine if absences are excused or unexcused. Please adhere to any rules or guidelines specified in our school’s policies.
5. Reporting Your Child will Leave Early
We will be utilizing SDM’s Leaving Early option so that parents can let the school know when their child is being picked up early. Select the day on the calendar that your child will be picked-up early, then select Add Exception, and choose Leaving Early. You will immediately be asked if your child is coming back to school. Select Yes or No and then fill out the remaining information. Depending on whether you answered yes or no, SDM will create the appropriate dismissal exception or notification to the office once you click Submit. You must still come into the office to sign your child out and adhere to any rules or guidelines specified in our school’s policies.
6. Reporting a Late Arrival
We will be utilizing SDM’s Late Arrival feature so that parents can let the school know when their child will be arriving late to school. Select the day on the calendar that your child will be arriving late, then select Add Late Arrival, fill out the reason, and click Submit. SDM does not determine if students are tardy and you must still come into the office to sign your child in and adhere to any rules or guidelines specified in our school’s policies.
7. The Parent Dashboard always displays the current and following week. Days where there is no school or there is an early dismissal will be clearly marked. To opt in for text messages, click Preferences in the top menu to add your mobile number.
8. Recurring Dismissal Exceptions: If your child has a temporary, recurring dismissal exception click the Recurring Dismissal Instructions located at the top of the screen and fill out the details as required. DO NOT use the Recurring Dismissal feature to put in your child's ''default'' dismissal. The difference between a Recurring Dismissal Exception and a Weekday Default Dismissal is that recurring has a start and end date because it is a temporary dismissal that occurs regularly on a specific day of the week for the entire school year.
9. Going home with a friend in Parent Pick-Up / Carpools: If your child is part of a carpool or going home with a friend, you will need to set up parent pick-up. Once the correct dismissal option is selected, you will be asked a series of questions. In the “PARENT OF” field, search for the parent driver by their student’s first or last name and select the parent who will be picking up. You may use the individual calendar days or Recurring Dismissal Instruction feature to assign your child(ren) to the parent driver that is picking up on certain days.
10. Email Notifications: When receiving email notifications regarding dismissal changes or cancellations made, know that hitting Reply or Reply All on those emails does not reply to the school or person making the change. If you need to respond to a notification (i.e., to inform the school it is incorrect, provide additional details, etc.), click Help in your top menu and fill out the details to email the office.
11. FAQs: As you begin to use School Dismissal Manager, if you have questions, check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) link found in the Parent login area at the top of the SDM homepage or click on Help in your top menu. Here, you will find answers to the most commonly asked questions. If your question remains unanswered after checking here, please contact the school office and we will be happy to assist you further.
If you find you need further assistance, contact Ashley Schaefer at Ashley.Schaefer@sau26.org or (603) 424-6215. For reasons of safety and security, SDM staff does not respond to parent requests or emails and will redirect any parent callers to the school office.
Thank you for using this tool to help us keep the dismissal process safe and orderly for all our students and staff. Please contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Painchaud
