Dear Lord,

We thank you for the gift of our Fathers

and all fathering figures in our lives.

Thank you for their strength, guidance,

wisdom and love.

Thank you for the fathers here with us

and those who are no longer with us,

those who have recently left us

and those whose memory remains in our hearts.

Please watch over and protect our fathers

so they can continue to be an example to us all

of God’s love in action.

We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name.

AMEN

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Book Week – A Symphony of Stories Book Week – A Symphony of Stories

Last Friday we celebrated Children’s Book Council of Australia ‘Book Week’. Students had the opportunity to dress as a book character to showcase a range of books, old and new for a parade during our morning Assembly. We are constantly amazed at the creativity and ingenuity of our parents and students in the representation of characters. See attached photos.

Education Assistant Appreciation Week Education Assistant Appreciation Week

During Education Assistant Appreciation Week, this week, we celebrate and appreciate the contribution of our Education Assistants here at OLC. They support our students and teachers, helping create an environment where every child can thrive. Education Assistants work 1:1 with students who need extra help, they offer a listening ear and provide encouragement which develops confidence. We are so lucky to have such incredible Education Assistants at OLC. We sincerely thank them for all they do to make our school such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

The Father’s Day Raffle winners will be announced at the Father’s Day Breakfast TOMORROW morning. Special thanks to our P&F for organising the raffle and the breakfast. Good luck! There are some great prizes.

Learning Journey Learning Journey

Please note that our classrooms will be open for parents to view their child’s work on Thursday 17 September at 3.00pm. Parents can visit classroom until 5.00pm.

As the Learning Journey takes place after school, please be advised that students remain in the care of their parents. Unfortunately, they cannot remain in their own classroom unsupervised while parents visit another sibling’s classroom. Siblings may join their brother or sister’s Learning Journey in their classroom, together with their parents. Please note that the playground areas will be out of bounds during the afternoon, for safety and duty of care reasons. There will be no supervision of students in these areas, so students will need to stay with their parents.

Thank you for helping make this a meaningful opportunity for our students to celebrate and share their learning with their families.

Wellbeing Week Wellbeing Week

Week 8 is Wellbeing Week, 7-11 September. During Wellbeing Week, there is a focus on ‘fun’ and looking out for each other. Students, staff and families are encouraged to take time for themselves, do things they love, and show care and concern for others.

Early Childhood Philosophy Early Childhood Philosophy

Did you know that our Early Childhood teachers have documented the school’s philosophy for our Early Years? It is on display in the Early Childhood foyer, between the Pre-primary and the Year 1 classrooms. There are 5 elements of the philosophy statement:

· Child-centred and faith-based approach

· Relationships, Families and Community Partnerships

· Play and Inquiry as Foundations for Learning

· Balanced Teaching Practices

· Learning Environments for Active Participation

Elaborations of these elements will be shared in the next few newsletters, with the first two included here:

EduDance EduDance

In Weeks 9 and 10, students from Years 2 to 6 will be participating in EduDance sessions. Each class will have a dance lesson each day, leading up to a Dance Concert on Thursday 24 September. Concert times, for your diaries, will be 1.45-2.10pm for Teal classes, and 2.30-2.55pm for White classes.

Please find attached a list of which classes are Teal and which are White – these are just our Admin names for the classes:

Teal Classes: 1.45pm - 2.10pm

Year 2 Teal - Miss Katie Horrocks

Year 3 Teal - Mrs Sheree Knezevic

Year 4 Teal - Mr Benjamin Danaher

Year 5 Teal - Mr Nicholas Jones

Year 6 Teal - Mrs Caitlin Delane

White Classes: 2.30pm - 2.55pm

Year 2 White - Ms Kathy Holt /Mrs Nikki Rush

Year 3 White - Mrs Sandy Ricciardone & Mrs Gemma Sorgiovanni

Year 4 White - Miss Natalie Matthews

Year 5 White - Miss Taylah Howard & Mrs Anita Hurst

Year 6 White - Mrs Jayde McKenzie & Mrs Alison Martin

Students may wear their sports uniforms every day for these two weeks. There will be a dress rehearsal on Tuesday 22 September. Costume requirements for classes are very simple and are outlined below:

The costumes are intended to be a 'whatever you have in your cupboard' type costume and we bring along a few extras bits to tie everything together.

Sometimes people get very enthusiastic with costuming, which is great, we love the extras! However, please remember that these costumes are for dancing in.

A good rule of thumb is if the kids can comfortably do 10 star jumps and 5 push-ups in their costume then it’s great! If not, they may need to find something more suitable. Thanks so much for your assistance with this.

We are really looking forward to a fun couple of weeks of dancing and can’t wait to see the concert on the second last day of this school term.

Volunteering in the Community Volunteering in the Community

Our Year 6 students take turns to go to St George’s to help set up for the Tuesday evening community meal. They put out the tables and chairs, fill water jugs, arrange cutlery, set up tea & coffee, get glasses out and generally help out so that everything is ready for evening meal service. We are proud of the way our Year 6’s are so willing to give service and help others.

Kindy 2027 Kindy 2027

Please let your family and friends know that we are enrolling for Kindy 2027. Please contact the office for a school tour and more information.

In my Pocket Incursion In my Pocket Incursion

The Year 6 students enjoyed reading and discussing an uplifting autobiographical picture book ‘In My Pocket’, about a young girl forced to flee her homeland – a compelling parallel to the current global movement of displaced people, refugees and migrants, including many children. The story’s themes promoted opportunities to consider and encourage kindness, empathy and inclusivity in students’ diverse communities. Students designed and painted their own calico pockets, inspired by what resonated with them in the story, based on the ‘pocket’ symbol.

Crosswalk Crosswalk

Parents please be aware that after working with the local police, advertising in our newsletter and on school socials, contacting local agencies like the Lions, Senior Citizens and our Parish Church, there has still not been anyone interested in taking up the paid position of Crosswalk Attendant. Our staff have been endeavouring to assist at the crossing, however without the required training and equipment, we are not allowed to stop traffic, and it is becoming increasing difficult for us to have staff at the crosswalk during the busy morning and afternoon times. Please note that if you children are coming to school on their own, they may have to cross Cape Naturaliste Road by themselves. We are continuing to work with the local police and ask if you know anyone who may be interested in this role to please get them to contact Dunsborough Police. Thank you very much.

Thought for the Week Thought for the Week

As we celebrate Father's Day this weekend, we take a moment to recognise and thank the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, carers, uncles and special men who make a positive difference in the lives of our children. Their encouragement, guidance and love help shape confident, caring, and resilient young people. "The greatest gift a parent can give a child is their time."

In a world that often feels busy and fast-paced, it is the simple moments spent together, sharing a conversation, reading a story, kicking a ball, or enjoying a meal, that create lasting memories and strengthen relationships. May we all take time this weekend to celebrate those who support, nurture, and inspire the children in our community.

We hope all our Dads, Grandfathers and fathering figures in our community have a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday.

Have a wonderful week
May God bless you.
