Community Leadership Breakfast
Friday morning, we welcomed business leaders from our community to share breakfast with students and have conversations about leadership skills and career advice. Students had the opportunity to participate in three rounds of small question and answer sessions with guests from a variety of industries and professional backgrounds. Keynote speeches were delivered by Fritz Micko, SHS Senior Class President and Jason Trusnik, Owner & Founder of Pro Sports Performance.
Thank you to the following community leaders who took the time this morning to meet with our SMS students: Cameron Ryba (Strongsville City Schools), Rachel Arzuaga (Cleveland Museum of Art), Jason Trusnik (Pro Sports Performance), Chief Thomas O'Deens (Strongsville Police), Jenni Pelko (Strongsville City Schools), Gordon Perry (HNTB Corporation), Lisa Leszynski (KeyBank), Lindee Flater (District Capital), Chief Jack Draves (Strongsville Fire & Emergency Services), Rana Mancini (Freelance Filmmaker), Frank Fabrizi (Fabrizi Trucking & Paving), Sarah Blystone (University Hospitals), Katie Gacka (thunder::tech)
SMS GIVES BACK
Every year the students at SMS participate in a giving event called SMS Gives Back. Our students and families donate items that will be delivered to families in need for the holidays. Each grade level does something different:
6th grade students are collecting items for “weekend bags”. Some of the things they need include snacks, blankets, cleaning supplies and hygiene items. On December 8th, the 6th grade students will organize these items and put them into a reusable bag that will be sent to a family in need. Students will get a snack that day too. Each pod has a Signup Genius that was sent out by a teacher and is linked below.
7th grade students are collecting hats, gloves and games. The games will be wrapped by the 7th grade students on December 8th and distributed with the hats and gloves to the families in need. Students will get a snack that day too. Each pod has a Signup Genius that was sent out by a teacher and is linked below.

8th grade students will shop and wrap their gift on December 8th. Students will walk to the Strongsville Rec Center, Target and Dollar Tree. They will shop with their money then wrap the gift(s) at the Rec Center. Lunch and snacks will be provided to the kids. 8th grade teachers sent a letter home with instructions and a permission slip, it is also linked below. Please make sure to send the permission slip back to school if your child wants to participate.
SMS Gives Back is a school run event, but the PTA is helping by gathering snacks for the kids and getting parent volunteers. Please use this link to donate snacks and volunteer your time.
Thank you for making this such a wonderful event for our students and community!

Rotary Lunch Event
Great job to our SMS students and Mr. Rodak for their service this Friday at the Rotary Lunch event at the Strongsville Rec Center. The students were fantastic and received many compliments on how wonderful they were: polite, made eye contact, walked around and greeted all the guests, and served them gracefully. We are so proud of our young adults and the skills they are practicing and sharing with others. Thank you to Mr. Rodak and all of the staff who supported this event, including our Art Department and SHS DECA students, who videoed the event.

Math Aptitude Test
SMS teachers are in the process of recommending students to take the Iowa Algebra Aptitude test to determine the best middle school math placement for students and assess readiness for the rigors of an Honors math class. However, parents do have the option to request that their student take this test as well.
If your student is not currently in an honors or advanced 6th or 7th grade math class and you wish for your student to be considered for an accelerated math course, please fill in the form below.
Students who are entered into this form will be given the opportunity to test to see if they are able to be considered for this path. The test will be administered mid-January. Please finalize your request by January 4, 2024. Thank you.
Here is the Google Form to fill out. Thank you.
