Kia ora, Nameste, Talofa, Konnichiwa, Guten Tag, Gidday, Vannakkam, ni Hao, Kia orana, Hola, Salam, Sa wat deekha, Dia Dhuit, Goeie Dag, Bonjour, Καλημέρα, Mālō e lelei, Greetings everyone

Kia ora families and whānau! Welcome to our latest school update. We’ve had another busy and exciting few weeks here at Bellevue, and we are so proud of how hard our students are working both inside and outside the classroom. Thank you all for your ongoing support in making our school such a vibrant place to be.

A massive thank you to Megan and our fantastic Student Council for doing such a wonderful job organizing last week's school disco! It was an absolute highlight, and the energy in the room was amazing. We also want to extend a huge thank you to our staff who stayed to supervise, and to all of the families and children who came along to support the night. Thank you for making it such a fun and successful event for everyone involved!

Last Tuesday, staff from Bellevue joined forces with teachers and teacher aides from our local primary schools and Intermediate for a fantastic Staff Only Day. It was an excellent opportunity to connect, collaborate, and build strong partnerships across our kura (schools). We were absolutely thrilled to host NZ educational psychologist Kathryn Berkett, who shared incredible insights into children's brain development, resilience, and what truly helps our tamariki (children) thrive at school.

Three-Way Conferences

Our mid-year Learning Conversations are next week. As with all our reporting to families, these conferences are based on the principles of ‘Information Sharing That Informs Learning’. Please click here for more information on these.

They will be held on Tuesday 16th June and Wednesday 17th June. Our kura (school) is looking forward to seeing you all! While the library won't be open this year, please know that the admin block will be open if you need to have a private chat with a teacher without your child present. It would also be wonderful if you could drop by the staffroom to say kia ora and introduce yourself to me, Rachel, if we haven't met yet!

While you are here, you will also have the chance to share your thoughts to help shape our new strategic plan. We would love to hear what you enjoy about Bellevue and what improvements or developments you would like to see as we plan for the future. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us!

If you have not yet booked, please use the links or QR code below:

ICAS Assessments 2026

Bellevue School offers interested families of students in Years 4-6 the chance to participate in the ICAS Assessments in:

  • English (Reading)

  • Writing

  • Mathematics

  • Science

All of these assessments are online. The cost of each of the assessments is $22.95, EXCEPT Writing which is $28.75.

This competition takes place each year in schools throughout Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, the Pacific region and South Africa. ICAS Assessments are designed to recognise and reward academic excellence. Students are asked to demonstrate a deeper, integrated, and thorough level of learning. For more information please follow THIS LINK.

The assessments are challenging and provide an opportunity, particularly for students of high academic ability, to gain a measure of their own achievement in an external assessment situation. We would not advise that your child sit these if they are a less confident learner or would become anxious in an exam situation.

If you are uncertain about whether or not your child should participate please talk to their whānau teacher.

The dates for the ICAS Assessments at Bellevue in 2026 are:

  • Writing - Thursday 6 August

  • English - Thursday 13 August

  • Science - Thursday 20 August

  • Maths - Thursday 27 August

A notice has already been emailed to all Rimu, Tōtara and Kahikatea families about registering for these assessments. A reminder that entries and payment must be in no later than 3pm on Tuesday 21 July (first week back in Term 3). No late registrations can be accepted.

Bee in the City!

Our Lifeflight bee painting has started. Belle the bee visited Manuka and Nikau first and she’s looking rather bee-autiful. Thank you to everyone who submitted their design ideas. We are taking inspiration from several people’s entries - the key message was ‘make it bright’ so that’s what we’re doing! Keep watch to see how she progresses.

Enrolment planning for 2026-2027

Do you have a child turning five soon or next year or know someone else who does? Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend to enrol their child at any time in 2026-2027 are asked to please notify the school as soon as possible to assist the school to plan appropriately. It helps us to know as early as possible how many students will be enrolling as a five-year-old. Interested families may collect an enrolment pack from the office or from our website.

Out of zone enrolment applications are now being accepted for the fourth enrolment period of 2026 (Saturday 26 September to Wednesday 16 December 2026). Up to five (5) places are likely to be available for out of zone students.

The deadline for out of zone enrolments is Friday 26 June 2026.

Please have a look at the school website for more details: https://www.bellevue-newlands.school.nz/school-enrolment.
