Panther Families,
There is nothing quite like the energy of a building when it is full of students. The hallways are busy, classrooms are buzzing, and there is an overall sense of excitement. These first few days, I have seen teachers and students beginning to build relationships that will shape the year ahead.
I saw one of many great examples of intentionally building classroom community on the second day of school in a Language Arts class. Students were introducing themselves and sharing what they hoped to get from the class. It was a simple activity, and a powerful reminder that creating a safe, healthy environment is based on relationships and friendships – knowing each other. It’s critical to students having a sense of belonging.
When students feel known and respected, they are more likely to take risks, grow socially and emotionally, learn from one another and have more confidence in themselves. The small activities we are doing now to know each other’s names, listen to each other’s story and invite each other in to help each person in the room feel welcome matters. This is time well spent.
I’ve thanked you before for sharing your kids with us and partnering to create the kind of environment we all want. At home, please continue to encourage your students to be open to new friendships, show respect and kindness, and include everyone. We know that creating a strong community is something we all do together.
Proud to be a Panther,
Megan Jahnke
Principal
Grades 5-12 Assessments
During the first months of school, all students participate in universal screening assessments. These assessments in reading and math (e.g., MAP Growth) give teachers valuable information to support each student's next steps in learning. Find more information on our website about Assessments.

Keeping Our Schools Safe, Together
Every family wants their child’s school to be a safe, welcoming place to learn. Keeping students and staff safe is a shared responsibility across Spring Lake Park Schools — one that includes prevention, preparation, strong partnerships and knowing how to respond if something unexpected happens.
At the beginning of a new school year, we want to share how we work every day to keep our schools safe. Our students, staff and families are a part of that effort.
Our approach to safety and security has many layers. We work to prevent problems, protect our schools, practice how we will respond and learn from what happens so we can continue to improve. Read about our approach to safety and security.
