PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dowdall families,
It is my hope that this newsletter finds you all happy and healthy and ready to get back to school!
The building has been cleaned and polished and is nearly ready for students. I hope you have all enjoyed your summer break, it sure has been a hot and muggy one, whew! Now it is time to get settled back into a routine and get ready to come back to school.
You may have noticed the construction trailor and construction fence going up around here as we get geared up for our Dowdall gymnasium and secure entrance additions. I know it is going to be messy before it gets beautiful but I am hoping for minimal disruption to our day to day routines and so looking forward to gaining the beautiful new space. I will keep you posted as construction progresses and how it may impact things like the car loop.
The following information should assist you to getting off to a great start!
To learn your child's classroom teacher assignement you will need to log into ParentVue and complete the Online Registration which will have you verify and update you child's profile information. If you need assistance you can call our Technology Help Desk at (810) 591-1266.
When you log in to do your Online Registration you will also need to complete an
Education Benefit Form
This form is used to determine benefits avaiable to Dowdall to used for student programs.
Online Registration update must be completed in order to view your child’s classroom teacher assignment.

RIDING THE BUS
It is worth reminding families that riding the school bus is a privilege and unsafe and out of control behavior will not be tolerated.
New this year...My Ride App
Did you know? Kearsley buses travel over 1,000 miles per day. We want every trip to be a safe one for our Hornets!
Kearsley Schools welcomes parents/guardians and families as partners, working together to ensure our students arrive to and from school in a safe manner.
We are excited to introduce “My Ride K-12,” a parent communication app, to our transportation operations by Tyler Technologies.
Updates Are Just a Few Clicks Away
Using this one-of-a-kind mobile app, you will have access to your student's bus number, driver's name, bus stops and pick up & drop off times. In addition, on the app, you will be able to see the approximate location of the bus on the route.
Kearsley’s transportation department can send notifications, through the phone app, of changes that may impact on your student's route.
Getting Started with My Ride K-12
You will be able to access student bus information by logging in to My Ride K-12 through the web or downloading the app to your smartphone.

PARENT PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF
You MUST use our Dowdall car loop to drop students off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon. Please do not walk students into the building in the morning unless you have an appointment with school staff. Students should not be in the building until 8:20am. We do not have staff to monitor students prior to 8:20am.
Dowdall's car loop is located on the north side of the building. The easiest way to access the car loop is to go north on Belsay Rd. from Richfield and turn left (west) on Tipperary, this will guide you right into the car loop.
Staff will be out at the loop each morning to begin dismissing students from cars beginning at 8:20am. Please wait until your child is dismissed by a staff member before allowing them to exit, we will unload about 5 cars at a time.
For pick-up purposes you will be issued a card with your child's first name and last initial to place in your front window to aide us in loading students in the afternoon. Staff will be out at the loop and begin loading students at 3:20pm.
NOTE: As construction our Dowdall's new gymnasium progresses the loop may be impacted.

If you are interested in volunteering this year at Dowdall your first step is to fill out our Kearsley Community Schools Volunteer form. This is an annual thing, so even if you just filled one out late last school year, we ask that you please fill it out again.

Regular attendance is one thing that can make a huge difference in student achievement!
Did you know missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions, can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third-grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.
It is our policy that students be in attendance and on time to school at least 90% of the time.
Should your child need to be absent we ask that you call school to verify the absence (810) 591-2274. For the absense to considered "medical" we will need a doctor's note.
