Monday, December 11th

• Region Band Concert and Clinic, 8:30 am check in, concert at 6:30 pm @ Davenport HS

Tuesday, December 12th

• School Board Meeting, 6 pm, Support Services (Drum Majors and Guard SLT to represent band)
• Drumline performance at home basketball game canceled due to school board meeting

• Varsity Winter Guard Practice, 5-7 pm
• Concert Band Audition Results Posted in Band Hall, 4:30 pm

• Butter Braid Delivery, 4:30 - 6 pm

The Region Band Clinic and Concert is Monday, December 11th at Davenport HS. Students will wear concert uniforms - tuxes/dresses. We want to send out a huge thank you to Emily Lachance and Sarah Johnson for their work in getting 50 tuxes/dresses ready in one week.

Region band students need to bring these items with them to school on Monday.

• Black dress shoes (closed toe), black crew length socks or hosiery, white undershirt for boys.
• Region music folder
• Pencil

Schedule for the day

• 8:30 am - Check in on stage (symphonic band), band hall (concert band), or PAC foyer (percussion ensemble)
• 9:00 am - Rehearsal begins
• Noon - Lunch break - bring food or eat in cafeteria
• 1:30 pm - After noon rehearsal begins
• 4:30 pm - Dinner break - bring food or have delivered
• 6:00 pm - Check in for concert fully dressed in concert uniforms
• 6:30 pm - Concert begins

Students will need to have a plan for lunch and dinner. Students may check themselves out for lunch with an email to Alexis Granzin (alexis.granzin@comalisd.org) or Diane Van Haaren (diane.vanhaaren@comalisd.org). Students may only drive themselves.

Congratulations to the 24 students that have advanced to Area in ATSSB All-State Audition process! The final round of auditions to make the All-State band is Saturday, January 6th in Alice, TX. We will be leaving DHS at about 2:30 pm on January 5th to travel to Alice, TX. Please read the Area letter below with information on how to prepare for the next audition. Students will play all scales and all of each etude for the next audition.

Also, Davenport HS will host an Area Workshop on Thursday, December 28th from 9 am to 3 pm. We will use the morning to practice, and we will be having a mock audition in the afternoon. This masterclass is open to anyone that advanced to Area in the ATSSB All-State Audition process. Please bring $25 to cover the cost of pizza and the clinicians. We are hosting the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest on February 17th. Students that earn a 1st division rating on a solo or ensemble will earn a letter jacket if they have not already done so. Students that play a Class 1 solo (from memory) or and Class 1 ensemble and earn a 1st division rating will advance to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest at the end of May in Austin, TX. These state qualifiers will have their picture added to our wall of fame in the band hall.

All students who go to UIL will be responsible for the entry fee ($12). Woodwind and brass students will also be responsible for paying their piano accompanist (approximately $50).

Students who are interested in going to UIL Solo and Ensemble need to fill out this google form by Wednesday of this week so that we can begin assigning solos and ensembles.

All band students not going to UIL Solo and Ensemble will perform a solo at the Winds Solo Recital on February 12th.

All ensembles will also be performing at the Casino Night on February 24th in the evening.

Some info about the trip:

• The trip dates are April 26-28, 2024.
• We will be taking charter busses roundtrip to South Padre Island.
• The price for a Quad room is $617 inclusive. That means four people stay in one room. All students will be in quad rooms.
• Chaperones will sign up for double or single occupancy. The price for a Double room is $751 and a Single room is $1,019.
• A $100 deposit is due upon registration.
• Prices may change depending on the number of travelers that register. This did not happen on our last two trips, but it is a possibility.
• Only current band and color guard students may register for the trip.
• Students must be academically eligible to attend this trip.

We will take one chaperone per 10 students. All adults on the trip will be acting as chaperones. Remember that all chaperones must have done the CISD Background Check. If you are interested in chaperoning, please contact Mr. Keyes before registering for the trip.
