"BREAKING NEWS" RIGHT BEFORE PRESS TIME! "BREAKING NEWS" RIGHT BEFORE PRESS TIME!

Schools always need help whether it be for materials, food security issues, volunteers, etc... When Tom Nolan, from the Crooked River Masons, contacted me and asked how they could help, there was no hesitation with my response. Picnic tables. Prior to this year, generous donors had given us some picnic tables, but we wanted more for our outdoor learning program adventures. The Crooked River masons JUST delivered 10 picnic tables that they built and painted with donations from Hancock Lumber and Bancroft Lumber. They even painted the tables our school colors. How fabulous is that? We CANNOT wait to see our students and families using these tables with care. Thank you so much to the Crooked River Masons for their hard work and generosity in helping to continue to grow our outdoor learning program.

Dear Families,

Hope your students were able to enjoy their vacation. This morning, students mostly talked about spending time in the outdoors, sleeping in, sleepovers with friends, and getting a little more time with family. They seemed to enjoy their time away from school.

Hopefully, April break gave them the recharge they need to finish the year strong. We have 38.5 days left of school. And in this time we will wrap up our grade level units; our grade 3-6th graders will participate in State testing; students in K-6 will participate in STAR testing for reading and math; K-6 will participate in the Teachers College Reading Assessment; as well as have opportunities for field trips and/or special school events! It will be a very busy 38.5 days so please make sure to have your students well rested and ready to learn each and every day!

Thank you for all of your support. It is greatly appreciated. As always, if you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask. We will do our best to support you and your family.

A SPECIAL REMINDER A SPECIAL REMINDER

We LOVE that OCS is a community school and families enjoy the playground and school area after school hours. Please be mindful that we are expecting students (and the adults with them) to follow school rules while playing after school. If we happen to see a child breaking a rule, we will speak to the child about it and remind him/her to follow rules. These rules are to keep students safe and to protect our equipment and building. I recently had to speak to a family who was breaking a school rule after hours. The parent responded, "Well, what if you weren't here. You wouldn't know we were breaking the rules. So we could just keep doing it."

I am not trying to be mean. We have rules for a reason. Again, we are a community school and need to work together to protect our students and our playground equipment. It is also quite tricky for a child when s/he is held accountable for their actions at school when the child is allowed to break the rule otherwise.

Although we don't allow students to ride bikes or skateboards during school hours, we have noticed that some students are doing so after school. These children should be wearing proper safety equipment and all required equipment, including a helmet.

Let's work together! RIPPLE Behavior before, during, and after school hours!

Aiden Rizzotti Brings the OCS Community Together to help Ukraine! Aiden Rizzotti Brings the OCS Community Together to help Ukraine!

Aiden, like many of us, was struggling to find a way to help with the Humanitarian efforts in the Ukraine. "It's so hard to understand how we can be okay here while at the same time people in the Ukraine are dying and being bombed. I want to do something, but I am not sure what or how to do something." Aiden felt hopeless. With some brainstorming, he decided to hold an icecream fundraiser. Every student would have the opportunity to get an icecream and donations would be kindly accepted. And from there, he went to work to make it happen. Leading up to the event, he designed the poster for the event, researched the company to receive the Ukraine donations raised, and, with the help of his mom, he even created stickers for each student who participated in the event. On the day of the event, he organized the supplies, the event table, and even gave a speech to each group about their role in helping make a difference.

This was an amazing experience that helped Aiden feel more hopeful and feel like he made a difference. Another student shared, "It was so cool to see that he could make a difference. It helped me realize that each little bit counts. It's like if we all work together it makes things easier." Wise words from a sixth grader!

Thanks to Aiden's efforts to bring the community together, we will be sending a check to Sunflower of Peace, a nonprofit organization out of Boston that is giving medical and humanitarian aid to the Ukraine. With his help, we raised well over $500.00!

Thank you Aiden for giving us all a little more hope in our lives.

Spinning Pictures

Art Class turned into a Spin Class (not what you think) when Ms. Miranda brought in her spinning wheel. Students got a chance to work with the wool and play of course

Ice Cream

5th grade supported 6th grader Aiden Rizotti in his fundraiser to support Ukraine. With their donation students received an ice cream and a cool sticker that Aiden made. All proceeds go to help those in Ukraine. Way to go Aiden!

Hop to It

Just before break, 5th grade did a small bunny craft that allowed us to wind down all the hard work they've been doing before break. Amazing how creative they can be!
