Green Team News
Calling All Environmental Enthusiasts
With the help of the Decatur Environmental Sustainability Board, Talley has been selected to host a pilot composting program for the last three weeks of school! We are seeking help from all Talley parents who are available to work with students to oversee the food-collection process during lunch periods. Please email Kathryn Roberts if you're interested in participating. Thank you!
Crazy for composting? Check out this press release from the City of Decatur about the new curbside composting service.
End-of-Year Recycling
The Green Team once again will be overseeing the collection of unwanted school supplies for recycling or reuse. Boxes are being placed in each grade's hallway for the following items:
- Backpacks and lunch boxes/bags
- Headphones
- Binders
- Pencil pouches
- Used notebooks (spiral or marble cover)
- Paper and plastic folders
- Pencils (including mechanical), pens, markers, crayons, highlighters
- Glue sticks and empty glue bottles
Eco-Spotlight: Gorillas on the Line
Keep your old electronics out of landfills and help save gorilla habitats at the same time! Rare earth minerals, used in the production of cell phones and other small electronics, are found in only a few places in the world, and mining for these minerals has led to habitat loss for already endangered species. By recycling e-waste, those important minerals can be extracted and reused to reduce dependence on mining. Through August 29, Zoo Atlanta is partnering with ecocell to recycle cell phones, smartphones, tablets, Airpods/earbuds, smart watches and more to raise funds to support AZA SAFE Gorilla programs. All items should be set to factory reset and may be dropped off at the zoo.
CSD Updates
End-of-Year Medication Pick Up Information
Please pick up your child's medication from the school clinic by the last day of school, Friday, May 22. To adhere to safety guidelines, schools are unable to store any medications during the summer break. Therefore, any medication left behind will be discarded. Kindly remember that students are not permitted to carry their own medication home.
PTO Corner
- Thank you, Talley Community, for your generosity that allowed the PTO & Room Parents to spoil our Talley staff last week during Appreciation Week! With your support, we were able to pamper our amazing Talley staff and teachers with smoothies, snacks, books, an evening of celebration and camaraderie, catered lunch, a coffee bar, and more!
- It’s time to pre-order school supplies for next year! Online ordering is open through Thursday, 5/21 at http://www.EducationalProducts.com/shoppacks. Use school code TAL345. More details and paper order forms (for cash/checks) are available to print here and will also come home in folders next week. Supplies will be delivered directly to your child’s classroom before the first day of school. For questions, contact President@talleypto.org.
- Welcome to our PTO ‘26-‘27 Board! One PTO Co-president role is still vacant; we need a rising 3rd or 4th grade parent/guardian to fill this position. Reach out to president@talleypto.org if you are interested. We will continue searching for a candidate until this position is filled.

Kids Ages 5-13 Invited to Register for Decatur WatchFest 26 3v3 Soccer Tournament
Decatur Soccer invites youth ages 5-13 (rising K-8th grade) to register for its 3v3 Soccer Tournament, powered by Decatur WatchFest 26, a fun, flexible, and community-focused event led by DHS soccer players and coaches. Join us Saturday, June 20, 8:30-noon at the Decatur High School Stadium with plenty of parking and just a short walk from the Decatur MARTA Station and Decatur WatchFest.
Kids can form a team of up to five players and sign up at the link below for just $75 per team (payable separately via GoFan). With no uniforms required (pennies provided) and small-sided 3v3 match play run by our DHS players, this format keeps things simple while maximizing touches, engagement, and fun for every player.
The tournament is open to girls, boys, and co-ed teams (co-ed teams will play in the boys bracket), with divisions based on rising school year: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 6-8. This is a great way to celebrate Decatur WatchFest and FIFA World Cup 26™ while supporting the Decatur Soccer program, and giving your child a fun soccer experience without a big time commitment. Just gather a group, register here, and show up ready to play!
