Poetry Contest!
From Mrs. Crumley:
For about a month the students have been learning about the many forms of poetry. We have practiced rhyming and rhyming schemes, we have looked at concrete poems and acrostics and we explored the rules of Haiku poetry. Each student ended our time writing 1-3 Haiku poems on their own.
We are sending these poems into a national poetry contest designed to share our youth's talents with others, and provide a publishing opportunity for our young poets. A panel of educators will review the poetry and select poems to be published in the 31st edition of the Young American Poetry Digest. Poems are selected based on the overall quality of the poem in light of the student's age and grade level.
The authors of the poems selected will be notified and written parental permission will be required to print their poetry. There is no charge to the students for publication. Our school will receive a complimentary copy of the book to place in our school library as well. I am very proud of their hard work and hope that some of our poems are selected to be in the book!
