Did You Know?
Do you know the 3-3-3 rule for kids?
The 3-3-3 rule for kids is a simple sensory grounding technique used to help children manage anxiety, panic, or overwhelming emotions by redirecting their focus back to the present moment. When a child feels stressed or anxious, the child's brain can spiral into worry thoughts or panic. This simple
3-3-3 rule be used to help a child calm down their nervous system and make them feel safe.
This process includes:
- Name 3 things you see-Have your child look around and point out or name three specific objects in their environment (e.g., a red hat, a toy, or a picture on the wall)
- Name 3 things you hear-Have your child close his or her eyes for a moment and listen for three distinct sounds (e.g., a car outside, people talking, or a clock ticking).
- Move 3 parts of your body- Encourage your child to physically move three different body parts (e.g., wiggle their fingers, roll their shoulders, or stomp their feet)
