DISTRICT UPDATES
Chelsea Public Schools is on the Rise!
As a school district, CPS is celebrating strong results from the 2025 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS), signaling steady academic growth and districtwide momentum.
Additionally, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education named the Hooks Elementary School at 2025 School of Recognition! The Hooks achieved double-digit gains in every tested area on the MCAS exam last year to demonstrate progress toward annual accountability targets, with an emphasis on improved achievement in ELA and math.
Congratulations to all of our students and staff on these incredible accomplishments and a special shoutout to everyone at the Hooks! To read more about this accomplishment and more details about CPS' MCAS scores, visit our website:

CPS Featured in the October Addition of the AASA School Administrator Magazine
An article written by Superintendent Dr. Almudena G. Abeyta was featured in the October 2025 edition of AASA's School Administrator Magazine! AASA's award-winning magazine provides big-picture perspectives on a broad range of issues in school system leadership and resources to support the effective operation of schools nationwide.
The article, titled "Lifting Our Literacy Game Through Ignite Reading and Tutors", describes the incredible literacy gains made by first grade students in Chelsea since being exposed to high-dosage tutoring via the Ignite Reading program. At the beginning of the 2024-25 school year, only 16 percent of first grade students were on their reading benchmark. By the end of last school year, that number great to 50 percent. READ MORE:

We talked about class community, school community, neighborhood community, etc. Mrs. Mimi came into our class to talk about what her role is in our school community. She also read the book Clothesline Clues to Jobs People Do since it tied in nicely with the community theme.

HOOKS SCHOOL UPDATES
Student Mural
We were hard at work in the art room creating and displaying our Takashi Murakami inspired flower mural!
All of the Hooks students in grades 1-4 came together to create a flower mural inspired by the Japanese artist. Students curated their own colors by choosing their favorite options based off of a colored key code. Each petal personally represents one of their favorites! Check out the key code on the third floor bulletin board to decode their flowers!
Third and fourth graders had a chance to learn how to build and piece the flowers together themselves to create the display of artwork you see next to art room.
Celebrating the Queen of Salsa
Mr. Johnny came to teach H206 about Celia Cruz. He read a book about her and then the class learned some dance moves to celebrate the Queen of Salsa! We had a great time, thank you Mr. Johnny!
Hispanic Heritage Month
319 has been putting their research and writing skills to the test to learn all about central and South American countries in honor of Hispanic heritage month! So far our class has researched El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Perú, Ecuador and Cuba! We also had a salsa dance lesson and read aloud with Mr. Johnny to learn about Cuba and Celia Cruz!

CHS Health and Life Science Pathways Students attend Simulation Lab Series with Harvard MedScience
This week, our Health and Life Science Pathways students kicked off an exciting hands-on learning experience through the Harvard MedScience Program at the Museum of Science. The first in a series of immersive simulation labs offered students a unique opportunity to step into the role of medical professionals and deepen their understanding of real-world healthcare practices. Students enrolled in the CHS HLS Anatomy and Physiology class with Ms. Dellinger get to participate in this exciting simulation.
During the lab, students engaged in a dynamic clinical simulation where they assessed a patient case, asked critical questions, evaluated symptoms, and began forming differential diagnoses. Working collaboratively, they practiced essential skills such as clinical reasoning, teamwork, and communication.
This partnership with the Harvard MedScience Program offers students an engaging opportunity to explore the intersections of science, medicine, and patient care in a real-world setting. We’re proud to see our students taking this meaningful step in their academic and professional journeys.
