Watkins Middle School Delayed to Fall 2027
After careful consideration of our district's growth patterns, we are delaying the opening of Watkins Middle School from its initially scheduled Fall 2026 date.
Why This Decision is Necessary
Prosper ISD is still growing and remains one of the fastest-growing districts in Texas; however, the North Texas region is experiencing a shift in population movement.
DFW is experiencing a notable slowdown in new home construction, with new home starts down 37% and closings down 29% year over year.
Economic factors, including interest rates and a slower resale market, have impacted projected enrollment growth throughout the region.
Texas school districts receive funding on a per-pupil basis, which means our revenue is directly tied to student enrollment.
When enrollment growth slows unexpectedly in our area, school districts receive less funding than anticipated.
We are not alone in making these adjustments—several neighboring North Texas districts, including Frisco, McKinney, Plano, and Allen, have made similar decisions in response to changing growth patterns.

Now in its 27th year, the academy provides advanced leadership development programs designed to elevate successful principals to even higher levels of leadership and proficiency.
Admission to the Thompson Principal Academy is highly competitive, with only approximately 25 participants selected for each cohort. Prosper ISD is proud to have three principals earning this distinguished opportunity for professional growth and leadership advancement.

This comprehensive institute equips principals with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead sustainable transformation in public education. Participants engage with an innovative nationwide network of educational leaders, experiencing one of the most significant professional growth opportunities available in their careers.
Selection for the Principals' Institute is highly competitive, with only 60-70 principals chosen annually from across the region. Prosper ISD is proud to have three principals representing our district in this distinguished leadership development program.

Prosper Education Foundation Raises Over $103,000 on North Texas Giving Day
The Board celebrated the outstanding results of the 17th Annual North Texas Giving Day, during which the Prosper Education Foundation (PEF) raised over $103,000 to support Prosper ISD students and staff. This extraordinary achievement was made possible through the generosity of individuals, families, businesses, corporate donors, and community partners from across the region and around the world. These funds will directly support programs that enhance educational excellence, innovation, and opportunity throughout the district. The Board expressed gratitude to all contributors and reminded the community that donations to PEF can still be made at any time through the North Texas Giving Day page, ensuring a continued lasting impact on students, teachers, and the future of Prosper ISD.
