Multi-Tiered System of Support Multi-Tiered System of Support

Dear Fraser Families,

Fraser’s teaching staff is committed to helping all students succeed. The Mission Statement for our district is “Innovate. Learn. Lead.” There are many ways to help students to be as successful as possible. We also realize here at Fraser, that our students do not come to us as “one size fits all” learners, have different learning styles, and learn at different rates. Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is one way to offer needed support.

Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a process of providing educational and behavioral support. There are three tiers in this approach, and they are as follows:

Tier I: ALL students receive the core curriculum and instruction in their regular education classrooms as well as School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (SW-PBIS). The teachers work with all students at their individual levels.

Tier II: ALL students receive the core curriculum and instruction in their regular education classrooms. The school provides targeted interventions to students who need more support in addition to what they are receiving in their general education classroom.

Tier III: Students in this tier receive more intensive interventions. They are exposed to the core curriculum in their general education classroom but need more intensive interventions on basic skills that usually requires an individual learning or behavioral plan.

Fraser Public Schools has developed a timeline for student assessments. Your child’s general education teacher conducts additional and more frequent progress monitoring to move students fluidly through these tiers as needed based on each students’ assessment data. As a parent, you will be notified by your child’s school if your child moves into a different tier of support.

If you have any questions about MTSS, please do not hesitate to contact us. Also, the Fraser website has additional information on MTSS as well.

Sincerely,

Kyle Ray

Director of Secondary Instruction

The Big Map of Michigan visited our third graders this week. The children were able to explore our special state in a very interactive way. They were curious noticing and wondering and asking thoughtful questions about what they saw on the map of our home state. Students also participated in an activity that showed them how to locate places using a grid. There is still a lot of learning to come, but this was a great way to kick it off!

Our lost and found is filling up with a large number of zip-up hoodies and sweatshirts. If your student is missing any items, please have them check the lost and found!

You can help us reduce the number of items in our lost and found by labeling tags and water bottles with your students name. When found, we will return to your child!

PBIS Spotlight: October Character Trait - Self Control PBIS Spotlight: October Character Trait - Self Control

As part of our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program, each month we focus on a character trait that helps our students grow as Disney STARs. For the month of October, our focus is on Self-Control. Self-control means making good choices even when it’s hard, thinking before you act, and managing your emotions in a positive way.

Throughout the month, students will participate in classroom lessons, discussions, and activities that highlight ways to practice self-control at school, at home, and with friends. Staff members will be on the lookout for students who demonstrate this important trait each day!

At the end of the month, we’ll celebrate students who consistently show self-control and make positive choices as our October SuperSTARs!

As part of our PBIS system, our Mickey and Minnie awards travel to classrooms each week to recognize students for demonstrating our Disney STAR expectations! Mickey visits the classroom that does the best job keeping its room clean and tidy at the end of the day, while Minnie visits the classroom showing outstanding lunchroom behavior.

Last week, Minnie spent time with Mrs. Strickland’s kindergarten class for their great lunchroom behavior, and Mickey visited Ms. Rattee’s first grade class for doing a wonderful job cleaning up at the end of the day!

Keep up the great work, Disney! We can’t wait to see where Mickey and Minnie travel next!

Thank you to our amazing PTO for organizing a wonderful Trunk-or-Treat event this past Friday evening. Our Disney community enjoyed a fun night of trunk-or-treating, cider and donuts, games, and time spent connecting with one another.

We were also impressed by the creativity shown in our annual Trunk Decorating Contest. Each entry showcased the imagination and talent of our Disney students and families.

Congratulations to Colton Krystyan's family for winning the Best Trunk competition!

A big thank you to our sponsor Meijer for donations and support to our annual Trunk-or-Treat. Also, thank you to everyone who hosted a trunk, passed out candy, and helped setup and cleanup. Your contributions, time, and support helped make this event a fun and memorable Disney tradition for our entire community.

Celebration of Learning

Student-Led Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 29th from 1:00-3:30 and from 4:30-7:30. This year, ALL families will be invited to attend our Fall Conferences to celebrate learning!

This conference will be a true Celebration of Learning led by our students. We will host an open-house style event from 1:00-3:30 and again from 4:30-7:30, allowing families to attend during a 10–15-minute time slot that best fits their schedule.

Each classroom will feature 4-6 viewing stations where students can share their learning experiences with their parents. During this time, students will reflect on their goals, showcase their work, and highlight their progress since October. Teachers will circulate throughout the classroom providing support as needed. Each student-led conference is expected to last about 10-15 minutes. If all viewing stations are occupied in the classroom, we kindly ask families to wait in the hallway until a station becomes available.

Please know our special education staff will be available for walk-ins during the entire day. Specials teachers will be rotating between assigned buildings; however, if you’d like to speak to someone specifically just let us know in the main office and we will have them follow up with you.

Our goal is for 100% of students and families to attend this event. We look forward to celebrating your child’s learning with you.

All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.

Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.

Parents can use Canvas to

  • Contact their child’s teacher

  • View grades, due dates, and events

  • See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school

  • Support an absent student

  • View classroom and building announcements

  • And more!

For the first step you will need to have two devices (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) available to be paired. One device will be used to log into your student’s canvas account. The other will be used to create your parent canvas account.

Log into Student Canvas Account on one device

  • For parents/guardians of students whom are in young fives through 2nd Grade: A QR code of your students’ username and password will have been sent home. Use your camera function to scan the QR code to access your student’s Canvas Account. If you are having issues with the QR code, contact your teacher or elementary media tech.
  • For parents/guardians of students whom are in 3rd-6th Grade: To log in as your student, have your student login to their Canvas account. Your student should know their username and password. If not, contact his or her teacher or your elementary media tech.

Create Parent Account on a second device:

At Disney Elementary, we want to partner with our families to create a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for all of our students.

Please send your child to school if they are generally healthy and able to participate in their usual day-to-day activities. Avoid keeping children home unless they are truly too sick to engage in learning and school routines.

To support families in making these decisions, we’ve put together a helpful reference chart outlining when to keep your child home and when they can safely return to school for common illnesses.

Thank you for working with us to keep our students and staff healthy and ready to learn!
