What is Giftedness?

NAGC, the National Association for Gifted Children, explains that gifted learners are, “Students with gifts and talents that perform—or have the capability to perform—at higher levels compared to others of the same age, experience, and environment in one or more domains.” Being gifted doesn’t always mean that learners will get good grades or do well in school. While gifted learners might be high achieving, this isn’t always the case. Giftedness looks different in every learner, and it’s important to understand and appreciate those differences. If you’d like to learn more about giftedness, please check out NAGC’s article, What Is Giftedness.

Advanced Learning Plans

As we continue to migrate the ALP process to the Project Education platform, we ask that you use the following links to provide essential information for your child's ALP. Please take a few moments to complete the following surveys by August 28th. You will need your child’s 6-digit lunch number to complete the survey.

Please take a few moments to complete these surveys and submit them no later than August 28, 2026.

  • Parent/Guardian Annual ALP Survey

We also appreciate your support in helping your child complete this survey:

  • Student Annual ALP Survey

Over the coming weeks, I will review your input, collaborate with your child, their teachers, and other support staff to finalize their 2026-2027 ALP. I will send you a finalized copy for your review and signature no later than September 30, 2026.

We will also have an opportunity to share and discuss your child’s ALP during fall conferences. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.

Serving & Programming

Students' ALP academic goals will be programmed for within the classroom, by our classroom teachers. Students will work on ALP affective goals, in small groups with Mrs. Jakubowski or Mrs. Dunker. Students will continue to use the Depth & Complexity Framework as a lens for thinking and learning about their goals.

Community & Family Engagement

Wisdom begins in wonder. ~ Socrates

Take a WONDER WALK around your neighborhood. Go for a walk together and encourage your learner(s) to look around and share all of the things that they wonder. (example: I wonder what happens to the rainwater when it falls on the street. Where does it go?)

CHALLENGE: Design an invention that would be helpful for teachers, students, or both as the new school year begins. You can sketch out your invention or build a prototype. Bring your idea to class before the end of the month to share. I’d love to see your thinking!
