Maintaining Game Day Focus

Parents, keeping our students focused on their Game Day goals is key to helping them succeed! We encourage you to have weekly discussions with your child about their progress toward meeting their goals. One of the best ways to support this is by encouraging them to work on their iReady pathways. Our next assessment is set for November, when students will take another iReady Diagnostic to measure their growth. We’ve set some fun monthly incentives to make iReady lessons engaging and help students reach their goals:

1. Weekly Goal: Our goal is for students to pass two lessons in ELA and two in Math each week. Students who meet this goal every week in October will be invited to the **"Principal Party"**—a special break from class with a treat from the principals. Plus, students who consistently meet this goal through November will be eligible to attend a movie field trip in December!

2. Accuracy Challenge: We also want to encourage students to aim for high accuracy. Any student who passes a lesson with 100% accuracy will receive a treat from their teacher.

3. Classroom Reward: The classroom with the highest overall accuracy percentage for the month will earn a classroom party! We’ll use the middle bulletin boards to track each class’s progress and celebrate their achievements.

Another way to help your child stay on track is by checking their grades in LiveGrades. If you need your login information, you can e-mail Mrs. Banks at tabanks@k12.wv.us.

Let’s keep these goals in focus and help our students achieve great things!

Attendance - What is Chronically Absent? Attendance - What is Chronically Absent?

Let's discuss attendance and how it impacts the school. It’s important to understand that the requirements for truancy and state accountability differ. This information focuses on the criteria our school must meet for state accountability purposes, specifically regarding "Chronic Absenteeism." Schools are responsible for keeping students out of the "chronically absent" category, which is defined as missing more than 10% of the school year. For WV, that means 18 days. It's also important to note that schools are held accountable for both excused and unexcused absences.

The chart below outlines the performance ranges for school accountability, based on the percentage of students who are *not* chronically absent:

- 5% or less: Exceeds Standard

- 6% to 10%: Meets Standard

- 11% to 20%: Partially Meets Standard

- 20% or more: Does Not Meet Standard

Currently, out of our 477 students, 99 have already missed 3 or more days (whether excused or unexcused) out of our 30 days of school. This places our current chronic absenteeism rate at 20%, which falls into the "Does Not Meet Standard" range for state accountability.

The school has been successful in reducing the number of truant students. We must start looking at ways to reduce the number of excused absences. Our school attendance committee will meet to identify ways to reduce the number of students in the chronically absent range.
