A Note from the Principal
Day 132/180
On Monday, our students in grades K through 5 were treated to a visit from author Josh Funk (more information below). It was a huge success and a memorable experience for our students, made possible in part by the generous support of our PTO. Students were especially engaged during the “Cooking Up Characters” segment, where they learned how authors bring stories to life by mixing together different traits, ideas, and inspirations. It was an inspiring day that not only deepened students’ appreciation for writing, but also encouraged them to see themselves as authors and creators.
On Tuesday, students in PreK through grade 4 took part in the Playful Engineers program (see photo gallery link at the bottom of the page), a hands on STEAM experience where they built kinetic art using everyday materials while exploring motion, creativity, and design. This is our second year bringing in this program, and it is certainly becoming a Jacobs tradition. The program will also be part of our Art Show in May. Once again, we are grateful to our PTO for making this opportunity possible for our students.
Although an enriching experience was also planned for our JMS students this week, the weather did not cooperate and we were once again forced to postpone their trip to Holly Hill Farm. We look forward to rescheduling and providing that experience in the near future.
Over the past week, we have made some adjustments to student internet access at school to ensure a safe and focused learning environment. These updates include strengthening filters and limiting access to certain websites and features that are not necessary for school use, such as YouTube. Student use of technology is always evolving, and we want to stay ahead of it while continuing to use technology in meaningful and strategic ways. This also serves as a good reminder for families to periodically check in on their child’s device use at home and reinforce expectations for appropriate online behavior. We appreciate your partnership in helping students use technology in a safe and responsible way.
