Mountain Bay Mustang Messenger
October 2026

Message from the Principal
Happy October, Mountain Bay Families!
It's safe to say...fall has arrived! It's hard to beat the changing colors and crispness of the air. It's a delightful time of year. And, just like that, we're over a month into school.
Thank you to our students, families, staff, and PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) for an amazing kick off to our upcoming Glow Run. Our wonderful PTO and staff are excited for all students to participate in the run this coming Friday, October 9th. The students continue to absolutely love this event each year! Thank you to our families for your support of the run and our students, staff, and PTO!
Be on the lookout this coming week for parent-teacher signup communication. Conferences will be at the end of October as we'll be one quarter into school. Our teachers look forward to sharing the successes as well as growth areas for each of our students.
Thank you for your continued support & partnership!
Mr. Schult
No School - Monday, October 5
Make sure to carefully review our district calendar and plan accordingly. We have several upcoming no school days, including no school this coming Monday, October 5.
Packer Outreach Event - Tuesday, October 6
We're excited to welcome the Packer Football Outreach Event back to Mountain Bay. This exciting experience gives our students the opportunity to get active, have fun, and put their football skills to the test! Students will rotate through five action-packed stations featuring fun drills and obstacle courses. They'll race in a relay, kick a football, leap for a catch, and even dive for a touchdown! A completed parent/guardian waiver is required for your child to participate. All 3rd-5th grade students will participate as long as a waiver is on file. We can't wait to see our Mustangs hit the field, show off their skills, and have a whole lot of football fun! Students are encouraged to wear green and gold or Packer gear.
Conference Scheduling System Opens - Tuesday, October 6
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 27 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and Thursday, October 29 from 11:30-7:30 p.m. Conference scheduling is done online, please watch for your personalized scheduling link to be emailed to you. The conference scheduling system will open on Tuesday, October 6. Please make sure to get signed up for a conference with your child's teacher. If you need assistance scheduling a conference, please contact Jocelyn Barwick in the front office by calling 715-355-0302 ext. 0.
Walk to School Day - Wednesday, October 7
National Walk to School Day is an annual event that involves communities from across the country. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Today, thousands of schools across America—from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico—participate every October.
Weather permitting, Mountain Bay Elementary will join in on the fun and host a Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 7.
Who: Students and Staff at Mountain Bay Elementary - Parents are welcome to join too!
What: Walk the Mountain Bay Trail to School
Where: Saint Agnes Church on Schofield Ave.
When: Drop students off at 8:00 a.m.
Why: The first Wednesday of October marks National Walk to School Day, an annual event that encourages students, parents, and communities to experience the simple joy and numerous benefits of walking to school. Walking to school enables children to incorporate the regular physical activity they need each day while also forming healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
If your child would like to participate, please drop them off by Saint Agnes Church and the Mountain Bay Trail at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7. Our staff will meet students there and walk with them to school. Please reach out with any questions.
Mountain Bay PTO Meeting - Thursday, October 8
The PTO helps fund field trips, clubs, fine arts, new books, classroom supplies, playground updates, and so much more—all while building connections between families and teachers.
Want to make a difference and meet other families? Come join us at our October PTO meeting on Thursday, October 8 from 6:00–7:00 p.m. We’d love to see you there and could use your help to get the gym decorated for the Glow Run! 💙

Mountain Bay Glow Run - Friday, October 9
Mountain Bay Glow Run Fundraiser
The Glow Run will be on Friday, October 9 for our students! This event is not only an incredibly fun day for our kids, but it also helps raise important funds for our school.
The Glow Run is our PTO’s main fundraiser of the year, and the funds raised help support teacher allotments, field trips, books, enrichment opportunities, and so much more! Students can help support our school by collecting pledges and will have the opportunity to earn some awesome prizes along the way!
Have you registered your student yet?
Every student receives a personalized pledge page that can be shared with family and friends with just a few clicks. It's quick, easy, and a great way to support our school!
And don't forget... if we reach our school fundraising goal of $25,000, every registered student will receive a FREE Great Wolf Lodge waterpark pass! 🎉💦
Sharing on Facebook is a great start, but direct texts, emails, and personal messages are often the most effective way to earn pledges. A quick message to grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and neighbors can make a big difference. Don't be afraid to share your student's excitement and ask for support!
Student VIP Goal = Raise $250 individually or $400 as a family and earn a VIP trip to the Greenheck Fieldhouse for a special Bounce House Celebration followed by an Ice Cream Sundae Party on Tuesday, October 20.
Register at mybooster.com and share your student's pledge page today!

Advanced Learner Information Sessions
The nomination period for the D.C. Everest Advanced Learner Program will run from Monday, January 4 through Friday, February 26, 2027. Parents and teachers are encouraged to nominate students currently in 1st through 4th grade who have demonstrated advanced academic capabilities. Riverside Elementary houses the District's Challenge Program which serves selected students in grades 2nd through 5th. This program is designed with an accelerated and differentiated curriculum. Instruction time will emphasize higher level cognitive skills, problem solving, logic, and creativity. Students qualifying for placement in the program need to acquire academic knowledge quickly, apply knowledge in creative and productive ways, and demonstrate a strong desire to learn.
This year, the district is offering several information sessions about the Advanced Learner Program prior to the nomination period opening in January. Please see the below flyer for a list of upcoming information sessions. The intent of these sessions is to provide an overview of the program, to explain the screening/testing procedures, and to address your questions and concerns.
