Brief Message From the Principal

Dear Students, Families, and Community,

We are off to a fantastic start at Hansen Jr/Sr High School, and we want to take a moment to celebrate some of the great things happening in our building! Our students are showing tremendous Husky Pride—whether in the classroom, on the playing field, or through positive behavior each day. Teachers and staff are seeing students step up as leaders, take on new challenges, and support each other in meaningful ways.

Academically, students are engaging in exciting projects and discussions that push their learning forward. We’ve also seen great participation in activities and athletics, where Huskies are representing our school with determination and teamwork. These successes, big and small, remind us what makes Hansen such a special place to learn and grow.

We do want to share one important schedule update: tomorrow’s home football game has been moved from 7:00 PM to 4:30 PM due to electrical issues discovered earlier today. We have been assured that repairs will be completed next week. We appreciate your flexibility and encourage you to come out early to support our team!

Thank you for being an essential part of the Hansen community. The pride, encouragement, and support you show makes all the difference for our students. Together, we are building a strong foundation for success—now and in the future.

✍🏻 Attendance ✍🏻 Attendance

At Hansen Jr./Sr. High, we know that student success begins with being present. When students are in class consistently, they not only learn more, but they also build strong connections with their teachers, peers, and the school community. Regular attendance helps students stay on track academically, develop positive habits, and gain the confidence they need to be successful in school and beyond.

To support this success, our district requires that students attend at least 90% of each semester. This means that if a student misses more than 7 days in a class without an allowable excuse (such as a doctor’s note or other verified reason), they will be at risk of losing credit in that course.

If a student falls below the 90% attendance requirement, a meeting will be held with an attendance committee to review the situation. During the appeal process:

  • High school students must pass the final exam with at least a C and have a passing grade in the class in order to earn credit.

  • Junior high students must pass the class with at least a C to earn credit.

We believe that every student can succeed, and consistent attendance is one of the most important steps in making that happen. We appreciate your partnership in encouraging your child to be present and engaged every day.

📱Cell Phones 📱Cell Phones

Please take a moment to review our cell phone policy (Policy 3265) and discuss it with your student. To ensure a safe and focused learning environment, students are prohibited from using cell phones or personal communication devices including smart watches during class time or in bathrooms, locker rooms, or changing rooms.

Students must keep their phones in one of the following designated locations:

  • Their locker

  • A classroom phone holder (provided in every classroom)

  • Another location designated by school administration

Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action. Consequences can include:

  • Loss of the privilege of bringing a phone onto school property

  • Detention, suspension, or expulsion (depending on severity and frequency)

  • Confiscation of the device by an administrator (phones will only be returned directly to a parent or legal guardian)

  • In certain cases, police authorities may be contacted

If you need to reach your child during the school day in the event of an emergency, please call the school office. We will ensure your message is delivered promptly or help you get in contact with your student.

We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe and productive learning environment for all students.

🏅Activity Card 🏅Activity Card

We would like to remind families about the use of student activity cards for school events. All students attending home junior high or high school games are required to present their activity card at the gate.

  • If a student forgets their card, they will need to pay regular admission for that game.

  • If a student has lost their card, they may visit the front office before or after school to have a new one printed for $2.00.

  • If a student has not yet purchased an activity card, the cost is $45.00 and can be purchased through the front office.

  • All students who participate in athletics or cheer are required to have an activity card.

Activity cards provide students with admission to home games throughout the year and are a great way to support school activities while saving on event entry costs. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep this process smooth and consistent for everyone.

😁PBIS 😁PBIS

At Hansen Jr./Sr. High, we are committed to creating a positive and supportive learning environment through PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). This approach helps us recognize and celebrate students who demonstrate positive behaviors and Husky Pride every day.

Students are recognized in a variety of ways, including:

  • Positive interactions with staff and peers

  • Recognition with Husky Pride Cards

  • Supporting the monthly focus (this month: being on time to class) with Gold Cards, which can be redeemed in September for an extended lunch

  • Earning Husky Howls for demonstrating exceptional behavior

Today, students who received a Husky Howl over the past two weeks were entered into a special drawing. Five lucky winners enjoyed a drink of their choice from Fizz Farm, and all 22 students recognized will be entered into our quarterly drawing for a brand-new JBL speaker.

We are proud of the positive choices our students are making, and PBIS is helping us build a stronger culture of responsibility, respect, and pride across our school.
