Giving Tree
Thank you for your generosity in supporting the Giving Tree. Collectively you donated $1,700 in gas cards and utility bill payments. St. Francis House received 25 gifts. Meeker Elementary received 27 gift cards and gifts for one family. You provided 10 gifts to residents at Rainier Rehab, 25 gifts to CCS foster kids and teens, and 17 gifts to residents at Pioneer Court.
After the gifts were collected, a great group of volunteers came out on a rainy Saturday night to help wrap them. Thanks to everyone who donated gifts and helped wrap and deliver them!
CCS Appeal for the Poor
Every December, Catholic Community Services/Catholic Housing Services collects donations for the Appeal for the Poor. Two times a month All Saints Food bank provides food to the City of Puyallup Pilot Shelter which is managed by Catholic Community Services. This program provides shelter and wraparound services to homeless individuals and couples from all walks of life.
According to the lead case manager Angelique Sanders, this program has housed 46 clients (and counting) and 111 clients have been connected to medical and mental health services. She says that in recent months, they have helped their clients obtain IDs, sustain full-time employment, qualify for a housing voucher, be reunited/relocated with their family, and get mental health support (including medication, counseling/therapy). In addition, they have helped clients who suffer from substance use get the assessment they need to start detox and treatment. In Angelique’s view the program’s expectations are fair; however, it can take a client some time to acclimate to a new environment, step out of their “fight or flight” mode, and trust that the team will help see them through the process and continue to be there for them. The case managers and hotel staff have compassion and understanding for the people they work with and have seen some great progress. She added, “We all truly believe in this program!”
Consider supporting CCS in all the work they do in our community for families, children, the elderly, and those who need basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. Click here to learn more or to give.
Grief Support Group
Coping with the death of a loved one can be one of the most difficult challenges we face. Understanding the grief process and sharing with other individuals in a supportive and caring environment can lead to acceptance, personal growth and recovery. All Saints is offering a five-week program for adults who are experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one. The focus is on group support in a safe and confidential environment led by an experienced facilitator. Not comfortable with a group setting? We can also connect you with one-on-one support.
