Summer Special Edition
Welcome from Forest Hills Elementary!
Welcome 2019-20 Forest Hills Families!
Now that we have crossed the halfway point of summer break, I'd like to offer an early welcome to our new and returning Forest Hills families.
For the uninitiated, the Falcon News is a weekly newsletter that will help keep you up to date on school events and news. I will pick up the regular weekly publication schedule at the beginning of the school year, but want to offer some information about beginning-of-the-year events, staffing changes, and other news.
The beginning of the 2019-20 school year is just around the corner and I, for one, am excited for what this year will bring! Have a wonderful summer and see you soon!

Welcome New Staff
I am happy to announce the following new members to our Forest Hills team!
Andrea Miller joins the Forest Hills team as the new 3rd grade teacher, an opening created by the retirement of Theresa Cumpston. Ms. Miller has been teaching 3rd grade for the Irvine Unified School District for the last five years. Previous to that, she taught 3rd and 4th grade for the Reynolds School District. Ms. Miller brings innovative practices that are backed by experience and a thoughtful and thorough approach.
Tori Hamachek joins us as the new 5th grade teacher, an opening created by the retirement of Monica Anderson. Ms. Hamachek has been with the Sherwood School District for the last five years, the last four of which as a 5th grade teacher. Ms. Hamachek has been a leader in math instruction and professional collaboration, as well as in developing an engaging and supportive learning environment.
Faith Jordan has joined our team as the new STEM teacher. Faith has been teaching 7th grade science at Lakeridge Junior High School for the past four years, including STEM focused electives. Before that, Faith taught in California as an elementary and middle school science teacher and 1st grade teacher. Faith brings the ability to build a positive and productive classroom environment while guiding students through highly engaging and hands-on tasks.
Katrina Edwards joins our team as the new Literacy Specialist. This position was previously held by Nicole Howard who will be joining the Westridge Elementary team. Ms. Edwards has taught a K/1 blend, 1st, and 2nd grade for the West Linn - Wilsonville School District, and was previously a Literacy Specialist for the Portland Public School District. Ms. Edwards brings strong instructional knowledge of early literacy and intervention that will support the literacy development of our youngest readers.
As previously communicated, Tanya Peshovich joins us as the new RTI Coordinator. Mrs. Peshovich has taught in grades 2 through 5, as well as provided leadership through the role of Literacy Coach. Most recently, Ms. Peshovich has worked as an educational consultant, providing training and coaching to teachers and administrators in the areas of highly effective instructional strategies, intervention design, and assessment.

School Supplies
Supply lists can be found through the 1st Day School Supplies site. Note that the deadline for purchasing pre-packaged supply kits has passed and are no longer available. Families will need to purchase items from the list separately.
Online Student Information Verification
Beginning July 29, parents of all students already enrolled for the 2019-20 school year can log into ParentVUE and review/update student information through the Online Registration tab. Accurate information allows the school communicate effectively, including during an emergency and when responding to medical situations.
If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Create New Account or Reset Password" and choose "Forgot Password". (The district will mail another Activation Key letter to parents who have not created a ParentVUE login and have an elementary school student.) For guidance, visit the LOSD website (under Enrolling and Transfer > Online Registration) or contact your student's school during its summer office hours. We appreciate your help!
