CounselingNEWSOctober, 2020

Hello Mustang Families,

I have enjoyed getting to know each of the students during my classroom lessons. We have covered topics such as mindfulness, stress on our bodies, how to be empathetic toward one another, and being a good friend. In this next month we will continue to explore the difference between teasing, mean teasing and bullying, emotions and how they can affect us differently, and listening attentively.

Our Sources of Strength character trait for October is Mentors. We will be focusing on behaviors that are respectful, responsible and being good role models.

When you come to the school check out out "Mindfulness "Bulletin Board. Each student and staff member wrote strategies or drew pictures to represent ways they are mindful of how they are feeling.

Ways you can help your child through these times of Covid.

* Take care of yourself- Find time to practice self care for yourself. We cannot be there for others if our cup is empty.

* Be understanding

* Find teachable moments

* Enjoy doing an activity or baking together

* Smile

* Tell your child(ren) you are proud of them

* Mistakes are OK, it is how we learn.

* Ask for help when you need it or your child(ren). We all need help and support from time to time.

We are in this together! Don't hesitate to reach out if i can assist you in anyway.

Outdoor Fun!

Find something you enjoy outdoors and do it with your family. Some ideas are hiking, biking, fishing, picnicking, going to the park.

What is your self care plan?

Exercise, walks, time with friends, reading, music, baking, sewing to name a few ideas. What do you enjoy that allows you to feel good and take care of yourself.

Listen

We all have busy, stressful lives. Take time each night to fully active listen to your child(ren). Ask them how their day was. Ask them what they learned and have them explain the process. Repeat short affirmations back to them to show you are fully hearing what they are saying. By modeling this we are all teaching our child(ren) to be active listeners.
