From the Desk of Mrs. Weekes
Dear Los Pen Families,
What an incredible, high-energy week we just wrapped up! Thank you to our students, families, and staff for making this year's Red Ribbon Week a tremendous success. Throughout the week, our school community came together to focus on the importance of making healthy choices and taking care of our minds and bodies.
From our daily theme days to our friendly school-wide door decor competition, the school spirit was palpable. Our hallways completely transformed thanks to the outstanding creativity displayed in our Red Ribbon door-decorating contest. The students and teachers put so much heart and teamwork into their designs! Congratulations to our winning classrooms: Arkansas, UCLA, SDSU, and Montana for their exceptional and inspiring door displays.
As a special highlight, we were treated to an unforgettable, high-flying BMX bike show that kept everyone on the edge of their seats while delivering powerful messages about dedication, hard work, and continuing to make healthy choices. This incredible event was a direct reward from our amazing PTA because our community surpassed our Big Give fundraising goal! Thank you to our PTA and to everyone who contributed to making this reward possible for our students.
Our Friday Flag assembly this week was filled with both proud milestones and great laughs. First, we had the distinct honor of celebrating our phenomenal English Learners who officially reclassified as fluent English proficient. Reaching this milestone takes immense dedication, and we are so incredibly proud of their hard work and academic achievement. Our students got to cheer on their teachers in a hilarious, high-stakes balloon-fanning contest. It was the perfect, joyful end to a week centered on community, healthy choices, and school pride.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for supporting our students in making positive choices every single day.
Very Respectfully,
Mrs. Weekes
Lost & Found
Our school Lost and Found is growing fast and overflowing with jackets, sweaters, and other personal belongings.
- Stop by to look: Please drop by the school to check the collection if your child is missing any items.
- Label your items: Please write your child's name clearly on all of their clothing and gear. Many children have similar or exactly the same clothes. Labeling items ensures that there is no confusion when claiming items.
- Easy reunions: When items are labeled, we can quickly return them directly to their owners.
With the weather getting cooler, we want to ensure all students have their clothes to layer up!

Keeping Students Healthy
Notification Regarding Illnesses
As we enter cold and flu season, we are seeing an increase in the number of students coming to school feeling ill. We understand that families have busy schedules and that missing school can be challenging; however, we ask for your help in keeping our school community healthy by ensuring that children are well enough to return to school after an illness.
Our Health Office supports a school community, with one Health Technician available to assist students who become ill or injured during the school day. When many students are experiencing symptoms of illness, it can be challenging to provide timely care to everyone who needs assistance.
Please help us reduce the spread of illness by:
Keeping your child home when they are sick. If your child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or symptoms that prevent them from comfortably participating in school activities, please keep them home.
Waiting until symptoms have improved and your child is ready to return. Please follow school district guidelines for return to school, including any applicable fever-free requirements.
Encouraging good hygiene. Remind your child to wash their hands frequently, cover coughs and sneezes, and avoid sharing food or drinks.
Monitoring your child throughout the day. If your child is not feeling well before school, please consider whether they are ready to participate in a full day of learning.
We recognize that some symptoms, such as a lingering cough or runny nose, may persist after an illness. Please use your best judgment and follow school guidelines when deciding whether your child is well enough to attend. Our shared goal is to maintain a healthy learning environment for all students and staff while ensuring that students who need care during the school day can receive appropriate attention.
For more information, please follow our Health Services webpage.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and consideration for the health and well-being of our entire school community. We appreciate your partnership in helping keep our students healthy and ready to learn.
