2026 State Report Card
We are proud to share that Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School has once again
obtained outstanding results on the 2026 Ohio State Report Card, earning the highest
overall rating of ★★★★★. These results reflect the hard work of our students, the
dedication of our teachers and staff, and the strong support of our families and
community. BBHHS is a special place, and we are excited to intensify our efforts to
create opportunities for all students and engage with our families.
Ohio High Schools are measured in five component areas. This year's report card saw
us achieve a ★★★★★ ranking in four out of the five component areas. A summary of
each area is found below. More detailed information can be found on the state report
card linked here.
Achievement
Achievement
Our students significantly exceeded state standards in tested subject areas (OST exams)
in academic performance. With a Performance Index Score of 109.4 out of a possible 111.5, BBHHS demonstrated that nearly all students are reaching or surpassing rigorous state expectations.
The Performance Index measures how well students perform on state tests by assigning
more points for higher achievement levels (advanced, accelerated, proficient) and fewer points for lower levels (basic and limited). The index reflects both the percentage of students tested and their scores on each exam, providing a comprehensive picture of overall academic achievement.
Progress
Student progress at BBHHS is exceptional. Report card results indicate that our
students are performing at levels that exceed "expected growth." This speaks to the
effectiveness of our selected curriculum across tested subject areas, initial instruction,
alignment to state standards for instruction, and the academic intervention/enrichment
support systems in place.
"Expected Growth" is generated from a predicted score that is generated using a
“value-added” model. This model utilizes prior student testing history to predict how
well each student is likely to perform on state tests, based on their previous
achievement history. Schools then earn ratings in this component based on whether
students, on average, met expected growth, made more progress than the predicted
score, or made less progress than predicted.
Gap Closing
We are especially proud that BBHHS received the highest marks in closing educational
gaps. This means that students who may need additional support are growing at a strong rate and achieving at levels comparable to their peers across the state. In Ohio, the Gap Closing component measures how well schools ensure that student groups (such as those based on race/ethnicity, economic disadvantage, English language learners, and students with disabilities) meet performance expectations. The component is determined by comparing each subgroup’s results on state tests, graduation rates, and English learner progress against state data and annual improvement targets set by the Department of Workforce and Education.
Graduation
Graduation outcomes at BBHHS remain among the best in Ohio. The Class of 2025
(data from this component is calculated as a "year in the rear") earned a 4-year
graduation rate of 99.2% and a 5-year rate of 99.4%, both significantly above state
Standards.
Graduation rate is determined by tracking the percentage of students who earn a regular high school diploma within a set time frame after entering 9th grade. Ohio reports both a 4-year rate (students graduating on time with their class) and a 5-year rate (allowing one additional year for students who may need more time). Both rates are calculated by dividing the number of students who graduate by the total number of students in the adjusted cohort, which accounts for transfers in and out of the school or district.
College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness
This measure, reported again this year after a pause during/after the pandemic, evaluates how well schools prepare students for their next steps. The BBHHS class of 2025 earned ★★★★☆ with a score of 80.3% compared to 77.6% from the Class of 2024 (again, data from a year in the rear is utilized for this measure) identified as “prepared.” This component is determined by calculating information such as SAT/ACT Remediation scores, Students scoring a three or above on three or more AP Exams, completing work-based training programs or apprenticeships, earning an Industry Credential, enlisting in the military, and/or other categories.
While a ★★★★☆ is a strong result, we believe our students are performing at a five-star level. Through program adjustments and data reporting refinements, we are hopeful we can raise this rating in future years. Specific targets of this goal include our continued exploration of work-based learning programs and pre-apprenticeship opportunities for interested students.l

Interim of First Quarter
We have reached the mid-point of the first academic marking period. Teachers have been instructed to have their gradebooks updated by the end of next week so that students and parents can have a strong indicator of student achievement at this point of the school year. If, after reviewing PowerSchool, you have concerns about your child's academic progress, please contact the individual teacher directly to discuss those concerns or their school counselor.
Parent-Teacher Conference Registration
On Thursday, October 1st, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School will host a Parent-Teacher Conference evening. This year, we will again offer both virtual and in-person meeting options for families wishing to meet with BBHHS staff regarding their child's academic progress.
On Wednesday, September 23rd, a registration link for individual teachers will be sent to families to schedule their conferences by teachers. Please be on the look-out for an email Wednesday afternoon. The sign-up link will also be posted on the BBHHS website.
Parent conference meetings are scheduled to be 15 minutes in length for both virtual and in-person meetings. Virtual meetings will take place from 4:00-5:30 p.m., and in-person meetings will be held from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Drop-ins will be permitted from 6:30-7:00 p.m. It is strongly recommended that you make an appointment to meet with a specific teacher and check their availability before dropping in to ensure availability.
CVCC College Night
On Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, CVCC will be sponsoring the Cuyahoga Valley College Night Consortium (CVCNC) in collaboration with the Ohio Association for College Admissions Counseling. This event provides ALL BBHHS STUDENTS the opportunity to connect with a variety of colleges, universities, technical centers, and military academies and their representatives. A keynote program of the evening will be a complimentary financial aid presentation hosted by Kent State University, scheduled from 6:15 PM to 7:00 PM. College Rep Visits Now Active at BBHHS
Admissions Officers from schools across Ohio and the nation will begin visiting
BBHHS to meet with Juniors and Seniors during lunch periods over the next several
months.
Numerous colleges are already scheduled to visit BBHHS. Interested students must go
to the "college tab" in their Naviance account and click to view the list of schools
scheduled to visit BBHHS and their planned visit date. All students must register to
attend a presentation. Registration for presentations closes 24 hours prior to the visit.
Presentations from the college admissions officers are an excellent opportunity for
students to learn more about prospective schools and to demonstrate their interest in
universities of interest they may wish to attend in the future.
If a student wants to attend but has a class during the scheduled visit time, they must
get permission from the teacher at least a day in advance. Only registered students can
attend.

New Pay to Participate Resource
Have questions about where Pay-to-Participate fees go for athletics, clubs, and co-curricular activities? Find the system a little confusing? Wonder where that money goes anyway?
The BBHCSD Treasurer’s Office has created a new resource to help families better understand Pay-to-Participate. This resource provides a transparent overview of the program, including how the fee structure works, where Pay-to-Participate dollars go, and how those funds are used to support student opportunities and programming.
We encourage families to check out this new page on our district website to learn more about how Pay-to-Participate works and where your fees go. IF you have questions about the page or pay to particpate, please contact District Treasurer, Craig Yaniglos.
Seal of Biliteracy Class of '27 and '28
Students in the Class of '27 or '28 who are highly proficient in a world language, may qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy. This is a difficult seal to earn as you will be tested in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, and near native understanding of the world language is required. Testing will occur in the Spring, and it will be offered here at BBHHS. You may be required to pay for this testing process.
If you are interested and would like to be considered for testing, please complete this FORM no later than Friday, October 3rd. Completing this form is required to be considered for Spring testing.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or speak to your World Language teacher or Mrs. Izzo.

This Week at BBHHS
This week, we were proud to honor the seniors of our Lady Bees Tennis Team on Senior Night! Congratulations to Maria Bertolone, Audrey Fowler, and Madi Lupica, and thank you to their families for the tremendous support they have provided throughout their high school careers. We are grateful for the commitment and contributions these student-athletes have made to our tennis program and BBHHS.
Our Lady Bees Soccer Team also began preparing for Youth Night by connecting with players from BSA. Our student-athletes spent time with players from various age levels decorating signs, talking about what it means to be a student-athlete, and, of course, sharing some snacks! It was a great time for everyone and a wonderful opportunity to build connections between our varsity and junior varsity athletes and the future Lady Bees who hope to follow in their footsteps.
Finally, one of our Bees' favorite traditions returns tonight, Elementary School Night! Earlier today, our seniors from band, cheerleading, and football visited our elementary schools to get our K–5 students excited for Friday Night Lights. For our seniors, it is also a chance to return to a time where their own BBHCSD journeys began and create those same memories for the next generation of Bees. Thank you to Mr. Cocchiola, Coach Hoy, and Coach Schriber for organizing our seniors and helping make tonight such a special experience for our students and community. Go Bees!
