College Heights Connection
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful week. A huge thank you to the PTO and all the amazing volunteers who came out for our first Garden Cleanup Day last weekend. Thanks to your hard work, our garden is officially ready for planting.
We are thrilled to kick off our partnership with Ground Up Collective tomorrow. Ground Up Collective is a nonprofit that transforms school gardens into dynamic outdoor classrooms. Through hands-on lessons, students will explore gardening basics, nutrition, and core science standards while building creativity and social-emotional skills. We can't wait for our students to jump in!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Sarah Garland
Principal, College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center

Library news
Pre-K students enjoyed the very funny Chez Bob by Bob Shea about an enterprising alligator who opens a birdseed restaurant on his nose in an effort to catch and eat birds. We discussed what it means to have a change of heart. Instead of eating the birds, Bob makes friends with them and becomes an important part of their community. We enjoyed using Novel Effect to play sounds and music to accompany the story.
One-, two-, and three-year-old classes will visit the library again next Tuesday, September 8

Book display on creativity and imagination
Come check out our newest book display featuring books about the power of creativity and imagination. These books help us understand that there is often more than one "right" path, mistakes help us learn, and hands-on learning is how children learn best. Self-checkout is available after 3:30 p.m. by using the clipboard across from the circulation desk. Happy reading!

Feedback Wanted on Pre-K Access Survey
CSD has opened a survey to examine the priorities of Pre-K families in Decatur, including location, transportation, and changing community needs. All families and community members are invited to take the survey, regardless of their children's ages.
School principals recommended parents from their respective schools to participate in a working group to assist CSD in determining how best to engage with families, staff, and the broader community about Pre-K accessibility, and how to use community feedback to inform decisions about potential Pre-K locations. This survey is the committee's first community touch point.
The committee will use survey feedback data to define the community's values and priorities regarding any potential changes to Pre-K locations. The data will be used to make a recommendation to the Board of Education at the December board meeting. Data results will be posted. Community members can follow along and view upcoming survey findings, insights, and decision outcomes directly on the Pre-K Access Project webpage.
Please take the survey here through September 16:
