Welcome New Students!
Admissions Update: Six New Students Started Last Week!
We were glad to welcome six (6) new students and their families into our school community on Friday, October 16th. Your students likely already came home telling you that they made a new friend, as we welcomed a 7th Grader, four (4) 6th Graders, and a 1st Grader.
Thanks in advance for sharing with your friends, co-workers, and relatives about your positive school experience.
We are already receiving applications for next year from inquiring families. Did you know we still have some full-day preschool spots remaining for this year?
Families with initial questions or want to learn more about our school are encouraged to reach out to Admissions Director Natalie Bennett by phone (360)733-1750 ext 1509 or email (nbennett@thefranklin.academy).
Thank you,
Natalie Bennett
Admissions Director
The Third Grade Students are Excellent Readers!
Watch for information about the upcoming Read-A-Thon!
The upcoming Read-A-Thon will raise money to support four new Water Bottle Filling Stations in Markell Hall. Additional funds raised will go directly to the Annual Fund. This fund helps us keep tuition low.
We will kick off the Read-A-Thon November 2nd! Wait till you see the prizes...
Do you have a Veteran in Your Family?
This year, due to the fact that we cannot gather for the assembly, we would like to send them a little package created by our students to say thank you for your service!
If you have a family member or close friend who you would like to honor, please email Heather Black hblack@thefranklin.academy
Please include their name, address, and a little bit about their service. If you have a pictures of your veteran I would love to share those in the newsletter too!
If you would like to share about a veteran who is no longer with us, who you would like to honor, please forward that information to me as well.
For example:
Dave Williams – Vietnam War Vet, Army, Sgt. E5, with 11th Armored Cavalry. He served as Gunner on an Armored Personnel Carrier. Black Horse Unit - Grandpa to Gianna
Thank you!

The Reading Corner with Mrs. Samuel & Mrs. Snyder
I hope you are all doing well and staying as safe and healthy as possible! If your student would benefit from books on their feelings related to COVID, quarantine, staying safe, etc., The New York City Department of Education has published a list of ebooks for children on these topics. Thankfully, children’s authors and publishers were quick to try and get books out there for children, BUT, they are of varying quality, so please browse with that in mind!

In Markell Hall library news, students have been enjoying the new books donated by parents—thank you! They are always excited when I have new books on display. The “Spooky Reads” display is also seeing a lot of interest so you might see some scary books coming home! Several new book character posters have gone up on the walls, including Bab Kitty and Dog Man. And, the new bulletin board up in the library was created by Mrs. Samuel AND every single 2-4 student! It is full of book recommendations by your students. They have loved finding their own card up there and reading others’ cards for ideas. (If your child mentions that their card isn’t up yet, I have another batch of cards to switch out soon!).
In Robin Hall library news, students are also enjoying the new books donated and covered by parents! During the Fall, in addition to seasonal and holiday books, Kindergarten and first grade read-alouds often focus on character education, ie, how we interact with and treat one another. For example, in Otis and the Tornado, Otis the tractor has to decide whether or not to help the mean bull escape from a tornado that is headed straight for the farm. There are many great picture books about the importance of personal space, using our voice to help others, and how to deal with feelings like anger, worry, and sadness. We will be covering a lot of these topics in the upcoming months.
Hope you have time to enjoy a good book on our cool and often rainy Fall days!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Snyder and Mrs. Samuel
